The German beer festival celebrating the twinning between Fresagrandinaria and Püttlingen

Notte Bionda is the beer festival of Fresagrandinaria, a medieval village in the province of Chieti, perched on the eastern slopes of Monte Moro in the heart of the Abruzzo Vastese. Organized by the Associazione Culturale Fresana, the event is much more than a simple beer festival: it is a celebration of the twinning that has linked this small Abruzzo town to the German city of Püttlingen in the Saarland for years—a bond born from the large community of Fresani emigrants living in Germany.
The heart of the festival is the blonde beer, strictly craft and imported directly from Germany. The evening opens according to tradition with the tapping of the keg, the ritual gesture that officially signals the start of the music and the pouring. From that moment on, the Arena Püttlingen—the venue hosting the event, named after the twin city—comes alive with long tables, clinking steins, and high spirits until late at night.
Notte Bionda brings the best of both gastronomic traditions to the table. On the Italian side, there is no shortage of local ventricina from the Vastese, porchetta, and classic Abruzzo dishes; from the German side come würstel and schwenker, the characteristic grilled meat typical of the Saarland. A meeting of flavors that makes the event a small cultural bridge between Abruzzo and Germany.
Accompanying the beer and specialties is always plenty of live music: over the years, the stage has hosted groups like the Jorg Schommer Band directly from Germany, as well as local bands like Liberi su cauzione, creating a party that blends Bavarian vibes with local charm. Notte Bionda has become a staple of the Fresagrandinaria summer, drawing visitors from across the Vastese and neighboring towns.
Hosting a German beer festival in a village of just under a thousand inhabitants like Fresagrandinaria is a small community miracle, made possible by the strong bond with Püttlingen and the dedication of the Associazione Culturale Fresana. The event, traditionally held at the end of August, has become a symbol of friendship between the two peoples and a perfect opportunity to discover one of the most evocative villages in the Abruzzo hinterland, just a stone's throw from the Costa dei Trabocchi.
The 2026 edition of the Notte Bionda in Fresagrandinaria, the German beer festival linked to the twinning with Püttlingen, does not yet have official dates. The event traditionally takes place at the end of August at the Arena Püttlingen, featuring craft beer from Germany, Italo-German cuisine, the tapping of the keg, and live music.
Dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: details will be published by the Associazione Culturale Fresana and the Municipality in the weeks preceding the event.
