About Night in the Ancient Village
The village that comes alive
The Night in the Ancient Village is one of the most cherished summer events in Montenero di Bisaccia, in the province of Campobasso. Organized by Pro Loco Frentana with the patronage of the Municipality, it has enlivened the historic center of the town for two evenings since 2005, one of the four Molise municipalities overlooking the Adriatic.
A journey into memory
Along the streets and squares of the village — from Piazza della Libertà (known to locals as 'Prtall') to Via Regina Elena and Via Regina Margherita — visitors encounter folk songs and dances, local historical recitations, craft stands, and gastronomic specialties served by volunteers. For the occasion, normally closed historical sites are opened: the Porta Nuova, the Porta Mancina, and the ancient underground olive oil mill of Palazzo Iavicoli.
Tradition and community
The event involves the entire community, with middle school students acting as guides on the historical routes. An event that intertwines identity, tradition, and conviviality in the heart of Lower Molise.
Night in the Ancient Village — edition 2026
In 2026, the Night in the Ancient Village will once again animate the historic center of Montenero di Bisaccia for two evenings, following the 20 editions celebrated in 2025. The established formula is confirmed: a route through the alleys with folk songs and dances, visits to historical sites (Porta Nuova, Porta Mancina, underground olive oil mill of Palazzo Iavicoli), craft stands, and local specialties curated by Pro Loco Frentana.
Programme Night in the Ancient Village 2026
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by Pro Loco Frentana as part of the Summer Montenerese program. The usual structure includes two evenings starting around 7:00 PM: a guided tour of the village, folk songs and dances, musical performances near the town hall square, visits to historical sites, and food stalls with regional specialties.

How to get there
Montenero di Bisaccia (CB) is reachable from the A14 highway (exit Montenero di Bisaccia-Vasto Sud) and the SS16 Adriatica. The event takes place in the historic center.
