About Nebrodi Half Marathon

The Nebrodi Half Marathon is the classic winter half marathon held in Sant'Agata di Militello, on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Province of Messina. Every February, hundreds of runners gather on a traffic-free urban circuit along the seafront, overlooking the Aeolian Islands and nestled at the foot of the Nebrodi Park. In addition to the competitive half marathon (21.097 km), the event features the 14 km Porta dei Nebrodi Trophy and a 7 km non-competitive fun run open to families and amateurs. It is a key fixture in the FIDAL calendar and the Sicily Half Marathon Grand Prix.

The Sant'Agata di Militello Half Marathon

The Nebrodi Half Marathon is one of the most anticipated running events of the Sicilian winter. It takes place every February in Sant'Agata di Militello, a coastal town in the Province of Messina overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and nestled at the foot of the Nebrodi Park in Sicily. The event is organized by ASD Atletica Nebrodi, under the patronage of the Municipality of Sant'Agata di Militello, and is held in memory of Maurizio Gorgone, a financial police officer who died in the line of duty.

Three races in one day

The race day features three events starting together from Piazza Francesco Crispi:

  • Competitive Half Marathon (21.097 km), valid for the national FIDAL calendar and the Sicily Half Marathon Grand Prix;
  • Porta dei Nebrodi Trophy (14 km), held on a shorter circuit;
  • Giro di Sant'Agata (7 km), a non-competitive run and walk open to everyone, ideal for families and beginners.

A route between the sea and the mountains

The course winds through a city circuit entirely closed to traffic, starting from Piazza Crispi and finishing near Castello Gallego. The route runs along the Sant'Agata di Militello seafront, offering participants stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and, on clear days, the Aeolian Islands on the horizon. The technical challenge and the charm of the landscape make the Nebrodi Half Marathon a favorite among runners from all over Sicily.

A classic of Sicilian running

Established in 2014, the event has grown with each edition, attracting hundreds of athletes from clubs across the island. Included in the FIDAL calendar and the regional half marathon Grand Prix circuit, the race combines a competitive spirit with a community atmosphere, involving families, supporters, and enthusiasts who bring the town center to life. After the race, awards ceremonies wrap up a day of sport in the heart of the Nebrodi region.
