Celebrating Italian excellence at the Distilleria Mazzetti d'Altavilla, in the heart of the Monferrato region
The National Made in Italy Day is an annual event established by the Framework Law on the Protection of Made in Italy (no. 206/2023) and is celebrated every year on April 15th, the anniversary of the birth of Leonardo da Vinci, a universal symbol of Italian ingenuity and creativity. The goal is to promote the quality, creativity, and identity of Italian production, particularly by raising awareness among younger generations about artisanal and creative professions.
In Altavilla Monferrato, a small town in the Province of Alessandria nestled in the Monferrato hills of Piedmont, the celebration finds one of its most evocative expressions at the Distilleria Mazzetti d'Altavilla, an artisanal business active since 1846 and a member of the Association of Historic Italian Brands.
In the 2026 edition, the day takes on a special meaning: the Distilleria Mazzetti d'Altavilla celebrates its 180th anniversary, the result of the work of seven generations of master distillers. The national theme of the edition, "Young skills for Made in Italy," perfectly aligns with the company's vocation, which for nearly two centuries has passed down the art of distilling grappa, an authentic Piedmontese and Italian excellence.
For the occasion, the distillery offers free guided tours, an itinerant path that takes visitors through the places where Italian spirits are produced:
During the visit, there are guided tasting sessions of spirits, with food pairings that celebrate "Made in Italy" and local flavors. The event is also a tribute to the recent UNESCO recognition of Italian cuisine as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Visiting the Mazzetti Distillery also means discovering Monferrato, a hilly territory spanning the provinces of Alessandria and Asti, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the Langhe and Roero for its viticultural landscapes. It is precisely from the pomace of local grape varieties that grappa is born, the signature spirit of the Piedmontese food and wine tradition. The National Made in Italy Day in Altavilla Monferrato is therefore much more than a visit: it is a journey into the cultural and productive identity of an entire region.
