A family-friendly Christmas in the historic center of Altamura
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Altamura, a city in the Metropolitan City of Bari famous for its Federician Cathedral and DOP bread, Christmas has found a new home among the alleys of the historic center. Natale in Corso is the festival that, starting with its inaugural edition on December 8, 2025, transformed a district of the old town into a village of lights, music, and free entertainment dedicated especially to children.
The initiative is conceived and organized by the Altilia Stupor Mundi Association, a group of drummers and flag-wavers that bears the name of Frederick II of Swabia and has been animating Altamura's cultural life for years. With the help of many volunteers and the support of local businesses, the association has built a busy calendar of events that, day after day, has filled the city center with children, parents, and curious visitors.
The beating heart of the festival is Santa's House with his elves: a fairytale setting where children can meet Santa Claus, deliver their letters, and take a souvenir photo. Dozens of activities revolve around this iconic spot, designed to let families experience the holiday atmosphere in a simple and genuine way, far from the frenzy of large shopping malls.
The program alternates between juggling shows, stilt walkers, and giant bubbles, mascot entertainment, creative workshops for children, and theatrical performances such as the fun "Little Red Riding Hood X-Mas Edition." There are also performances by the Altilia Stupor Mundi drummers and flag-wavers themselves, who add a spectacular and authentic touch to the evenings with their drums and banners. All activities are free and spread throughout the streets and squares of the historic center.
The festival accompanies the community throughout the holiday season, from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception until January 6, when the arrival of the Befana and the distribution of stockings to children bring the calendar to a sweet close. A traditional Christmas Lottery was also promoted to support the organization's expenses.
Despite being its first edition, Natale in Corso achieved an excellent public response and significant social media visibility, with hundreds of thousands of views and tens of thousands of people reached. This result has encouraged the association's president and members to express their desire to bring the event back, while noting that its return remains tied to the support of local businesses and the patronage of the Municipality of Altamura. For this reason, the dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced.
The 2026 edition of Natale in Corso in Altamura has not yet been officially announced. The organizers of the Altilia Stupor Mundi Association have stated their intention to repeat the initiative after the excellent public response in 2025, but confirmation depends on securing resources and municipal patronage. Based on the first edition, the event is expected to return during the holiday season, featuring Santa's House, children's workshops, street performers, and free shows in the historic center.
