The LGBTQIA+ rights march through the historic center of Naples
Napoli Pride is the annual demonstration for the visibility and rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals, organized in the city of Naples, the capital of Campania. The first parade dates back to 1996: the 2026 edition marked the 30th anniversary of the event, celebrated with the theme Freedom cannot be corrected and the local slogan Ricomincio da 30 (I'm starting over from 30), an affectionate nod to Neapolitan cinema. Over three decades, the Neapolitan Pride has become one of the most significant civil rights gatherings in Southern Italy, filling the Rettifilo and Via Toledo with flags, floats, and musical processions.
The heart of the event is the parade, held on a Saturday afternoon in late June or early July. In 2026, the gathering was set for 3:00 PM at Piazza Giovanni Leone, by Porta Capuana, with the march starting at 4:00 PM. The route wound through Piazza San Francesco, Piazza Enrico De Nicola, Via Concezio Muzy, Via Colletta, and Forcella, before turning onto Corso Umberto I โ the Rettifilo โ and reaching Piazza Bovio, Via Guglielmo Sanfelice, Via Armando Diaz, Piazza Matteotti, and Via Cesare Battisti, continuing to Piazza Caritร and Via Toledo. The arrival at Piazza Dante took place around 8:00 PM, featuring speeches from associations and political figures on stage.
From 9:30 PM until midnight, Piazza Dante transforms into the stage for the Star Show, the grand concert that closes the day. In 2026, the event was hosted by artistic director Diego Di Flora alongside Samanta Togni, with direction by Gaetano Gaudiero and choreography by Vincenzo Durevole. Testimonials for the 30th-anniversary edition included Maria Grazia Cucinotta, BigMama, and Leo Gassmann, while La Tarantina, a historic figure of the Neapolitan femminielli, served as the solidarity godmother.
The parade is preceded by the Pride Park, the cultural hub set up at Palazzo Fuga, the monumental Real Albergo dei Poveri in Piazza Carlo III. In 2026, the Pride Park opened on June 18th with about nine days of free programming: meetings with AGEDO Napoli, a tribute to Ciro Ciretta Cascina and the screening of Femmenell, the World Refugee Day, the book presentation of La mia battaglia d'amore by Imma Battaglia, the Femmenella Show, the panel 1996-2026: from ART to PrEP with the Cotugno Hospital, the Rompitabรน space, the screening dedicated to La Tarantina, and a debate on thirty years of Pride with a live link to the Stonewall Inn in New York and the participation of activists from Odessa and Beirut.
During the Pride Park, a Health Check Point was also available, offering free and anonymous rapid tests for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis on the evenings of June 20, 21, 23, 25, and 26, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Napoli Pride is promoted by the Napoli Pride Committee, a community body that brings together Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, ALFI Le Maree, the Associazione Trans Napoli (ATN), Pride Vesuvio, and the Coordinamento Campania Rainbow. The Municipality of Naples supports the event with temporary traffic regulations: from 4:00 PM until the end of the event, a transit ban is enforced along the entire route, with bus lines diverted.
More than just a protest march, the Neapolitan Pride is now an urban festival that intertwines activism, popular culture, and entertainment. The presence of the femminielli, an ancient figure of Neapolitan tradition, gives the event a unique character not found elsewhere in Italy: the city experiences Pride as part of its own identity, among the alleys of Forcella, the palaces of the Rettifilo, and the Piazza Dante designed by Luigi Vanvitelli. For those visiting Campania in late June, it is an opportunity to see the historic center โ a UNESCO World Heritage site โ on one of its most crowded and colorful days.
In 2026, Napoli Pride turned thirty: the first Neapolitan parade dates back to 1996. The Napoli Pride Committee โ Antinoo Arcigay Napoli, ALFI Le Maree, Associazione Trans Napoli, Pride Vesuvio, and Coordinamento Campania Rainbow โ chose for the occasion the theme Freedom cannot be corrected, accompanied in the square by the slogan Ricomincio da 30.
From June 18, the Real Albergo dei Poveri in Piazza Carlo III hosted about nine days of Pride Park with free entry: a day of art and reflection with AGEDO Napoli, a tribute to Ciro Ciretta Cascina with the screening of Femmenell, World Refugee Day, the book presentation of La mia battaglia d'amore by Imma Battaglia, the Femmenella Show, the panel 1996-2026: from ART to PrEP with the Cotugno Hospital, the Rompitabรน space, the screening on La Tarantina, and a debate on thirty years of Pride, with a link to the Stonewall Inn in New York and activists from Odessa and Beirut. On the evenings of June 20, 21, 23, 25, and 26, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the Health Check Point was operational with free and anonymous rapid tests.
