Artistic lights, wooden chalets, and free shows at the former NATO base in Bagnoli
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Bagnoli, a western district of Naples, Parco San Laise—the former NATO base returned to the city after decades of military use—lights up in December with N'atu Natale, a free-entry Christmas village that brings together markets, artistic light installations, shows, and family activities. The initiative is conceived and promoted by the Fondazione Campania Welfare together with the Social Policies Department of the Campania Region, with the collaboration of local cultural entities such as Titania Teatro, Alchimia, and the cultural association MSP.
The Viale della Liberazione complex was built in 1939 as the Collegio Costanzo Ciano and hosted the Allied command of Naples from 1952 to 2013. Today, the park, named after the hill on which it stands, is a space undergoing redevelopment and progressive opening to the public: centuries-old trees, wide avenues, and large lawns frame the Christmas village. For many Neapolitans, it is still simply “the former NATO base,” and walking through its gates in December, amidst the illuminations, feels like a collective reclaiming of a piece of the city that remained inaccessible for a long time.
The heart of the event consists of the wooden chalets lined up along the park's avenues, hosting local artisans and the most authentic atmosphere of the Christmas season. Alongside the artisan stalls are areas dedicated to food and traditional products:
The program focuses on weekends and emphasizes family entertainment. The park features a rotation of animations, artistic performances, children's readings, photo exhibitions, and creative workshops, while elves and Santa Claus welcome visitors into their home. In the 2025 edition, magic was provided by Luigi's Magic, a traveling magician who enlivened the avenues with his performances, while theater was brought by the companies Teatro nel Baule and NapolArt with the Eduardo De Filippo one-act play “Pericolosamente,” directed by Agostino Chiummariello. There were also book presentations by Neapolitan authors held in the village throughout the month.
The distinctive feature of N'atu Natale is its social vocation: the event was born from a foundation dedicated to welfare and maintains total free access as a principle, ensuring no family is excluded. The village also hosted solidarity and prevention initiatives, such as the Fondazione Telethon stall and oral hygiene awareness activities for children promoted by the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of Naples.
The event takes place in the month of December and covers the entire holiday period. In the documented 2025 edition, the village remained open from December 6 to 31 on weekends: Friday and Saturday from 6 PM to 11 PM, Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM and 6 PM to 11 PM, always with free admission. For those visiting Naples during the holidays, N'atu Natale is a quieter, greener alternative to the crowds of San Gregorio Armeno and the historic center's illuminations, allowing visitors to discover a district, Bagnoli, that is slowly reclaiming its public spaces.
At the moment, no official dates have been published for the 2026 edition of N'atu Natale at Parco San Laise in Bagnoli, Naples. The event traditionally takes place in December, with the Christmas village opening on weekends until the end of the year.
