The Campanian buffalo supply chain takes center stage at Piazza Municipio, in the heart of Naples
In early September, Piazza Municipio, in the heart of Naples, changes its face: in front of the Maschio Angioino and just a stone's throw from the port, a gastronomic village is set up, smelling of fresh milk, hand-stretched mozzarella, and grilled meat. This is Bufala Fest – not just mozzarella, the food and wine festival that introduces Neapolitans and visitors to the entire buffalo supply chain of Campania, going far beyond the product that made it world-famous.
The name says it all: Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO remains the absolute star, but alongside it, you will find ricotta, provola, yogurt, gelato, cured meats, and cuts of buffalo meat—ingredients that have conquered the region's kitchens and pizzerias in recent years. For five days, the square becomes a long path of tastings, meetings, and shows open to everyone, from families to tourists just disembarking at Molo Beverello.
The program is completed by workshops for adults and children, contests between restaurateurs, and the Pulcinella Trophy, the festival's symbolic award.
Campania is the home of the Mediterranean buffalo: the farms of the Volturno plain, in the Caserta area, and the Sele plain, in the Salerno area, fuel a sector that represents economy, landscape, and gastronomic identity all in one. Bufala Fest was created precisely to show that this supply chain does not end with mozzarella: buffalo meat, cured meats, aged cheeses, and dairy derivatives can support a contemporary culinary vision that is attentive to quality and waste reduction.
Hence the constant focus on sustainability, the circular economy, and proper consumer information, which return every year in the debates at the Giardino delle Idee together with Coldiretti Campania, the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO, and trade associations.
Entry to the exhibition area is free, as is access to the show cooking and talks: you only pay for the menu ticket if you want to eat at the stands. This formula, combined with the evening hours and a square served directly by the subway, has made Bufala Fest one of the most popular food and wine events in the city, with thousands of visitors every evening and an audience that mixes Neapolitans, curious passersby, and cruise ship passengers.
The festival also has a vocation that goes beyond the province of Naples: over the years, it has hosted foreign delegations, international partners, and institutional guests, and has brought the Campanian buffalo supply chain to other Italian cities with preview editions.
In 2026, Bufala Fest reaches the milestone of ten editions: join us at Piazza Municipio from September 2 to 6, 2026, with a theme explicitly projected toward the future: Vision and excellence as tools to face global markets, technological innovation, and the green transition. The anniversary was preceded by an out-of-region preview, hosted in Prato della Valle in Padua from June 25 to 28, 2026, designed as a gastronomic and cultural bridge between Campania and Veneto.
The event occupies Piazza Municipio, the large square that connects the City Hall and the Maschio Angioino to the port of Naples, in the San Giuseppe district. It is one of the most accessible points in the city: the Line 1 subway station opens directly onto the square, and Molo Beverello, with ferries and hydrofoils to the islands of the gulf, is just a few minutes' walk away.
Bufala Fest – not just mozzarella returns to Naples from September 2 to 6, 2026 for its tenth edition, once again at Piazza Municipio. The anniversary is stated from the very theme, built around the idea of Vision: a buffalo supply chain that looks toward global markets, technological innovation, and the green transition without renouncing its Campanian identity.
The structure of the event remains the one that led to its success: The Village with food stands dedicated to buffalo products, the Arena del Gusto for show cooking, the Giardino delle Idee for discussions on agriculture, sustainability, and inclusion, and the Terrazza del Gusto for more refined tastings and moments of entertainment. There will also be workshops for adults and children and the Pulcinella Trophy.
The tenth-anniversary edition was preceded by an out-of-region appendix: from June 25 to 28, 2026, Bufala Fest arrived at Prato della Valle in Padua, as a bridge between Campanian excellence and the Venetian gastronomic tradition.
Access to the area, show cooking, and talks is free; to eat at the stands, you purchase a menu ticket, also available for online pre-purchase.
