Musikfest in Lappach

A village festival blending music and South Tyrolean tradition

The Musikfest in Lappach is the annual summer event where the Musikkapelle Lappach opens its village doors to musicians and visitors from across the Taufers and Ahrn Valleys. It takes place in Lappago (known as Lappach in German), a tiny hamlet nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,400 meters in the Municipality of Selva dei Molini (Mühlwald), in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. It is one of those quintessential village festivals that define the soul of South Tyrolean community life, where the local band is not just a musical group but the beating heart of the village's identity.

The focal point of the day is the music pavilion (Musikpavillon) in the center of Lappago, where performances follow one another throughout the day. Following the solemn morning mass, accompanied by a small ensemble from the Musikkapelle Lappach, the program continues with a concert by the youth band (Jugendkapelle) of Mühlwald and Lappach, followed by performances from guest bands invited from neighboring valleys. In the afternoon and evening, the atmosphere heats up with festive music (Unterhaltungsmusik) and the typical convivial spirit of South Tyrolean Blasmusik.

Gastronomy, families, and festive vibes

True to the tradition of South Tyrolean brass band festivals, there is no shortage of local culinary specialties and drinks served throughout the day. For the little ones, there is a large inflatable castle (Hüpfburg) and a dedicated family area, making the Musikfest a perfect gathering spot for all ages. Admission is free, and the festival is held regardless of weather conditions.

How to reach Lappago

Lappago is located about 6.5 kilometers from the municipal center of Selva dei Molini and is served by bus lines 450 and 451; those arriving by car will find parking in the village center. Its location, immersed in the pastures and forests of the Taufers and Ahrn Valleys and just a stone's throw from the lakes of Selva dei Molini and Neves, makes this day an excellent opportunity to discover an authentic and off-the-beaten-path corner of South Tyrol.
