About Musici incalzanti e Villici erranti

At Castel Stenico, in the municipality of Stenico in the Giudicarie Valley, history comes to life with "Musici incalzanti e Villici erranti": musicians, jesters, and peasants in medieval costume bring the castle's courtyards, halls, and walkways to life with ancient music, dances, and itinerant theater. This event is part of the diCASTELinCASTELLO festival organized by the Castello del Buonconsiglio and is included in the entrance ticket, perfect for families and curious visitors of all ages.

A dive into the Middle Ages at Castel Stenico

Musici incalzanti e Villici erranti is the itinerant costumed performance that brings Castel Stenico to life every summer. This ancient fortress is perched above the village of Stenico, in the Giudicarie Valley, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. For a few days, the frescoed halls, courtyards, and walkways of the castle are populated by musicians, jesters, and wandering peasants who, through ancient melodies and scenes of daily life, transport visitors back to the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.

The show

Artists in period costumes accompany the public along the castle tour route: from the notes of ancient instruments to the small gags of the jesters, from dances to the tales of the peasants who animate the manor's spaces. This is not a static stage show, but an itinerant experience where the performance moves from room to room and courtyard to courtyard, engaging both adults and children.

Castel Stenico and the diCASTELinCASTELLO festival

The initiative is part of diCASTELinCASTELLO, the summer festival promoted by the Castello del Buonconsiglio, Monumenti e Collezioni provinciali together with the Autonomous Province of Trento. Between July and September, it transforms Trentino's castles into open-air stages featuring music, theater, cinema, and historical re-enactments. Castel Stenico, once the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Trento, with its Old and New Palace, the Bozzone tower, and the San Martino chapel, offers an ideal setting to bring history back to life.

Who is it for?

  • Families with children who want to approach the Middle Ages in a fun way
  • Enthusiasts of historical re-enactments and ancient music
  • Castle visitors who want an extra experience during their tour

The show is included in the entrance ticket to the castle at no extra cost: simply purchase the ticket to access both the tour of the manor and the scheduled performances.
