The Calcinaia stop of the traveling festival through the villages of the Pisa province
The Musicastrada Festival is a traveling boutique festival that has been touring the villages, squares, and art sites of the province of Pisa, Tuscany, for nearly thirty years. Its formula is simple and unmistakable: bringing high-quality concerts to intimate, evocative spaces at sunset or in the evening, creating an atmosphere where there is no barrier between performers and listeners. Each evening is born from a unique encounter between an artist and a location with special charm, chosen for its intimate scale and the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
In Calcinaia, a municipality in the Lower Valdarno area of the Pisa province, the festival stop takes place in Piazza Villanova del Camì, in the heart of the town. Historically known as Vico Vitri due to its ancient glazed pottery production, Calcinaia owes its current name to the numerous lime kilns active since the 17th century—a village always tied to its artisan traditions, which for one night becomes a stage for live music.
Musicastrada is not a festival concentrated in a single location: it is a journey that touches several municipalities in the Pisan territory, from Castelfranco di Sotto to San Miniato, passing through Buti, Vicopisano, Calci, Pontedera, Cascina, Montopoli Val d'Arno, and, of course, Calcinaia. Each stop offers a different concert, transforming the entire summer into a musical path through the landscapes, parish churches, charterhouses, and historic squares of Tuscany.
Beyond music, the festival promotes values of accessibility and participation. The 2026 edition introduces the suspended ticket, an initiative created with the Arnera Social Cooperative of Pontedera that allows spectators to purchase additional tickets for those in financial difficulty, ensuring that culture can truly be for everyone.
On July 15, 2026, Piazza Villanova del Camì in Calcinaia hosts one of the stops of the 27th edition of the Musicastrada Festival, the traveling boutique festival that traverses the villages of the Pisa province from July 10 to August 2. Taking the stage is Il Mago del Gelato, a Milanese group described as one of the most appreciated and original acts on the contemporary Italian scene.
Their sound mixes afrobeat, funk, and jazz, alternating between energetic, percussive moments and more introspective, sensual atmospheres: a concert designed as a cathartic and immersive experience, where the audience is invited to let go and travel far with the music.
The Calcinaia stop is part of the 27th edition of the festival, which touches numerous villages in the province of Pisa from July 10 to August 2, 2026, featuring Italian and international artists (including Carmen Consoli, Nada, Venerus, Eugenio in Via Di Gioia, I Gatti Mézzi, Bobo Rondelli, and many others).
Calcinaia is located in the Lower Valdarno area, in the province of Pisa. By car, it is reachable from the SGC FI-PI-LI highway, taking the Pontedera exit, just a few kilometers from the center. The nearest train station is Pontedera-Casciana Terme, on the Florence-Pisa line, from where you can continue by bus or taxi.
Advance tickets, which are cheaper than those at the door, are available on the DICE.fm platform. For the 2026 edition, the suspended ticket program is also active to support those in financial need.
The concerts are held outdoors at sunset: we recommend arriving early to secure a spot and bringing a light sweater for the evening.
