The review dedicated to musical theatre at the Walter Chiari Theatre in Cervia
Musical? Why Not! is the review that the Municipality of Cervia, in the province of Ravenna, dedicates to the world of musical theatre and musical comedy. Promoted by the association Chorus Fantasy Aps of Ravenna, in collaboration with the BSMT – The Bernstein School of Musical Theater of Bologna and with Capit Ravenna, the event takes place at the Walter Chiari Municipal Theatre and in some symbolic locations of the city, with the aim of studying, disseminating, and promoting a genre that has an increasingly passionate audience in Italy.
The review stands out for its formula that combines performance and education. Alongside concerts open to the public, the program offers masterclasses for choristers, choirs, soloists, and performers, as well as lectio magistralis of a divulgative nature dedicated to the history and characteristics of musical theatre. It is a path designed both for enthusiasts who simply want to enjoy the shows and for those who wish to approach the genre from a technical and educational perspective.
On the stage of the Walter Chiari, choirs, vocal ensembles, soloists, and instrumental groups take turns. The Chorus Fantasy choir, the soul of the review, shares the stage with other local groups and with teachers from the professional musical theatre world. Dance, choral singing, and direction find space in a program that presents musical theatre as a total art form, capable of uniting multiple disciplines in a single performance.
Included in Cervia's spring cultural calendar, the review represents an opportunity to discover and rediscover a genre often underrepresented in provincial theatres. The collaboration with specialized schools and associations gives the event a solid professional imprint, while its openness to the public and families makes it a festive occasion for the entire community of the Romagna coast, in Emilia-Romagna.
Cervia, famous for its salt pans and its long seaside tradition, thus enriches its cultural offerings with an original proposal. The review confirms the vitality of the Walter Chiari Theatre as a reference point for the city's artistic life and contributes to making musical theatre an anticipated event of the Cervia spring.
The second edition of Musical? Why Not! took place in Cervia from April 10 to May 2, 2026, featuring three concerts, two masterclasses, and two lectio magistralis. The opening was on April 10 at 9:15 PM with the concert Feel the Music! by the Chorus Fantasy choir directed by Annalisa Gardella; on April 24 at 9:15 PM, the Ekos Vocal Ensemble presented Lo spettacolo nello spettacolo under the guidance of Massimo Pizzirani; the grand finale was on Saturday, May 2, in Piazza Garibaldi with the iBigBand and the concert Kings and Queens of Music.
The Walter Chiari Municipal Theatre is located in Cervia (RA), easily reachable by car from the A14 motorway (Cesena or Cervia-Cesenatico exit) and by train with the Cervia-Milano Marittima-Pinarella station on the Adriatic line.
The concerts are held at the Walter Chiari Theatre, while the final event enlivens Piazza Garibaldi in the center of Cervia. Detailed programs for masterclasses, calendar updates, and participation and registration details are published on the website of the organizing association, www.chorusfantasy.it.
