The high-altitude concert of the festival on the meadows of Campocecina, a natural terrace overlooking the Apuan Alps above Carrara
As part of Musica sulle Apuane, the high-altitude cultural festival that brings the mountains and villages of the Apuan Tuscany to life from late April to late September, there is one event that brings music to one of the most spectacular spots in the massif: the concert at the Prati di Campocecina. This vast grassy terrace, sitting at over 1,300 meters, opens up like a natural balcony over the Apuan Alps, above Carrara, in the province of Massa-Carrara. From here, the view sweeps across the white marble ridges, the scree slopes, and, on clear days, the Ligurian Sea: a unique backdrop for open-air music.
Musica sulle Apuane was born in 2013 from an idea that weaves together music, nature, and the promotion of the mountain territory. It is organized by the Italian Alpine Club (C.A.I.), "Elso Biagi" section of Massa, in collaboration with other Tuscan C.A.I. sectionsโincluding the Carrara branch for the Campocecina stopโand the Apuan Alps Regional Park. The artistic direction is entrusted to Gioia Giusti. Every year, the program offers a series of events spread across mountain huts, churches, meadows, theaters, and trails of the Apuan Alps and Lunigiana, almost always reachable via hikes accompanied by C.A.I. guides. All events are free and open to the public, in the spirit of making culture accessible to those who choose the mountains.
The Prati di Campocecina are one of the most beloved hiking destinations on the Carrara side of the Apuan Alps: vast high-altitude pastures dominated by the mass of Pizzo d'Uccello and Monte Sagro, serving as a starting point for numerous trails and home to mountain huts. Hosting a concert here means combining the experience of listening to music with the act of climbing the mountain, in full harmony with the festival's soul: you often arrive on foot, with a walk of about fifteen minutes from the provincial road, and sit on the grass with the Apuan Alps all around you.
For the 2026 edition, the natural stage of Campocecina is entrusted to I Patagarri, one of the most surprising revelations of the recent Italian music scene. Born in Milan as buskers, playing in the city's markets and clubs, they have developed a lively and overwhelming sound that mixes gipsy jazz, swing, blues, folk influences, and Balkan sounds, characterized by energy, improvisation, and acoustic instruments. The general public discovered them during their participation in X Factor Italy in 2024, while in 2025 they released the album L'ultima ruota del caravan. In Campocecina, they will transform the meadows into a whirlwind of rhythm and joy, for a concert that is also a mountain celebration.
The concert is part of the 14th edition of the festival, which in 2026 offers fourteen events between music and theater, as well as an unprecedented three-day theatrical trek and a scholarship program for young local artists. The Campocecina stop, in the heart of August, is designed as a trip for the whole family: you reach the altitude, enjoy the view, and listen to great music, always without a ticket.
The 14th edition of Musica sulle Apuane runs from April 25 to late September 2026 with fourteen appointments between music and theater, located in the most evocative places of the Apuan Alps and Lunigiana. The Campocecina stop, on the high-altitude meadows above Carrara, is scheduled for Sunday, August 9th at 3:30 PM, with a concert by I Patagarri. Like all festival events, this is also free and open to the public, with no reservation required. In case of bad weather, the concert will be held at the Teatro Garibaldi in Carrara.
The site can also be reached on foot, with about a 15-20 minute walk from the provincial road. The Campocecina concert is one of the fourteen events of the 14th edition, which also brings names like Giovanni Sollima, Lella Costa, and Le Scat Noir to the mountains and villages, in addition to an unprecedented three-day theatrical trek and a scholarship program for young local artists.
Prati di Campocecina, Carrara (MS), Apuan Alps, Tuscany. In case of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the Teatro Garibaldi in Carrara.
Campocecina can be reached by car from the Carrara area by heading towards Fosdinovo and Gragnana, along the provincial road that leads to the meadows. From the parking area, the meadows and the concert site are reachable on foot in about 15-20 minutes. Comfortable clothing and mountain-appropriate shoes are recommended, as well as a jacket for the altitude.
Admission to the concert is free and open to all, with no reservation required, as with all festival events.
