The Solius Sax Quartet performs for the Music Festival in the Arbëresh village
Every year on June 21st, Italy celebrates the Music Festival (Festa della Musica): a widespread event, born in France in 1982 and promoted in Italy by the Ministry of Culture, which fills squares, churches, courtyards, and cultural venues with free concerts of all genres on the day of the summer solstice. It is not a festival with a single program, but a network of local events organized by associations, schools, bands, choirs, and professional or amateur musicians. In Piana degli Albanesi, in the province of Palermo, the event takes the form of a refined chamber music concert.
The star of the evening is the Solius Sax Quartet, a four-saxophone ensemble offering a program balanced between classical music and soundtracks from great cinema. The saxophone, an instrument with a warm and versatile voice, lends itself perfectly to reinterpreting famous classical pieces and the themes that have made so many films unforgettable: a sonic journey designed for a wide audience, from enthusiasts to curious visitors drawn by the magic of live music.
Piana degli Albanesi is the most important Arbëresh center in Sicily: founded in the 15th century by Albanian communities who arrived in the mountains behind Palermo, the town still preserves its language, Greek-Byzantine rite, and centuries-old traditions, from the famous Carnival to Holy Week and the cannoli that have made its name world-famous. Hosting the Music Festival in this context means weaving the universal language of music with the unique identity of a village that, in the province of Palermo and the heart of Sicily, still speaks the language of its ancestors.
Like all events in the Festa della Musica Italia network, the Solius Sax Quartet concert is free of charge: one of the founding principles of the event is, in fact, free access to musical culture for everyone. The organization is managed by the Shën Mëria e Dhitrjes Association, which oversees the evening and guest reception.
On the evening of the summer solstice, Piana degli Albanesi participates in the national Music Festival network with a concert by the Solius Sax Quartet. The saxophone quartet offers a program that weaves together pages of classical music and famous film soundtracks, in an evening designed for audiences of all ages. The initiative is part of the 32nd edition of the Festa della Musica Italia, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and dedicated in 2026 to the theme "The voice of places".
