Chamber music festival in the Gardens of the Montalcino Fortress
In the village of Montalcino, home of Brunello wine and a hilltop jewel in the province of Siena, MusHic et Nunc is the festival that brings chamber music within the historic walls of the Fortress. For four evenings in late July, the charming Fortress Gardens transform into an open-air concert hall, where great classical music engages with ancient stone and the landscape of the Val d'Orcia.
The heart of the festival lies in the young talents of Italian classical music, mostly students and graduates of the Rinaldo Franci Conservatory of Siena, which organizes the event alongside the historic Società Filarmonica G. Puccini of Montalcino. It is a precious opportunity to hear emerging performers destined for concert careers in an intimate setting of great artistic quality.
Each evening offers a different ensemble and repertoire: from saxophone and percussion duos to violin and piano recitals, and from baroque ensembles to large wind orchestras. The program spans the masterpieces of the European chamber repertoire, featuring composers such as Brahms, Debussy, Respighi, Bach, and Handel, and traditionally closes with a spectacular performance by a wind orchestra.
MusHic et Nunc is part of the InFortezza d'Estate series, the program that enlivens the center of Montalcino with cinema, music, theater, and cultural meetings, promoted by the Municipality of Montalcino and the Fondazione Territoriale Brunello di Montalcino. For those visiting Tuscany in the summer, it is an occasion to combine listening to great music with discovering one of the most beautiful villages in the region, amidst Brunello tastings and views of the Sienese hills.
From July 27 to 31, 2026, Montalcino hosts a new edition of MusHic et Nunc, a chamber music festival included in the InFortezza d'Estate 2026 summer program, promoted by the Municipality of Montalcino and the Fondazione Territoriale Brunello. The concerts are held in the evocative Fortress Gardens and feature young Italian classical music talents associated with the Rinaldo Franci Conservatory of Siena and the Società Filarmonica G. Puccini of Montalcino.
The dates for the 2026 edition are confirmed (July 27-31, 2026) as part of the InFortezza d'Estate series. The detailed program of individual concerts, including ensembles, performers, and repertoire, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the festival. As in previous editions, several chamber evenings are expected in the Fortress Gardens, usually starting at 9:00 PM.
Concerts take place in the Fortress Gardens of Montalcino (SI), in Tuscany. Some events may also be held in other historic center locations, such as the Church of Sant'Agostino.
By car: Montalcino can be reached via the SS2 Cassia and the provincial roads of the Val d'Orcia; ample parking is available near the Fortress. By train: the reference station is Buonconvento, from where you can continue by bus or taxi.
Concerts usually start at 9:00 PM. For up-to-date information on dates, programs, and access, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Montalcino and the Società Filarmonica G. Puccini.
