The Scarperia leg of the traveling music contest for emerging artists in the Mugello region
The Mugello Sonoro Music Contest arrives in Scarperia, a village in the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero, in the Province of Florence, for one of the four qualifying rounds of the competition. The Scarperia stage takes place in the scenic medieval historic center, dominated by the Palazzo dei Vicari, and offers an evening entirely dedicated to original music by emerging artists from Tuscany and beyond.
Launched in 2025 as a joint initiative by the Pro Loco associations of the Mugello, Mugello Sonoro is a traveling music contest that tours the villages of the Florentine valley over seven evenings: four qualifiers, two semifinals, and a grand finale. The format rewards those who write and perform their own music: there are no age or genre restrictions, but participants must perform original tracks accompanied by a rearranged cover. Each evening features four acts, with approximately thirty minutes allocated to each, including stage changes.
The edition involves the Pro Loco associations of San Piero a Sieve, Scarperia, Barberino di Mugello, Borgo San Lorenzo, Vaglia, Firenzuola, and Galliano, coordinated by the UNPLI Florence Provincial Committee APS. The festival is designed to give visibility to emerging musicians while enlivening the squares and historic centers of the Mugello during the summer, turning each stop into a local festival open to residents and visitors alike.
In Scarperia, the evening is part of the qualifying phase: the competing acts perform live before a panel of industry experts, who evaluate originality, performance quality, and stage presence to determine who advances to the semifinals. The village of Scarperia, famous for its knife-making tradition and 14th-century layout, provides a stunning backdrop for this musical event.
The Mugello Sonoro prizes focus on artistic growth: previous editions have offered studio recording sessions at local facilities, a tangible recognition designed to support winners in producing their own music. The event, with free admission, concludes with a finale at the Mugello Circuit, providing a showcase for new talent from the Tuscan scene.
On July 18, 2026, Scarperia hosts one of the four qualifying rounds of the second edition of the Mugello Sonoro Music Contest. The stage is part of the 2026 traveling calendar that covers the entire Mugello region: qualifiers on July 11 in San Piero a Sieve, July 18 in Scarperia, July 25 in Borgo San Lorenzo, and July 31 in Barberino di Mugello; semifinals on August 21 in Galliano and August 29 in Vaglia; finale on September 11 at the Mugello Circuit.
Four acts perform on the Scarperia stage, each with about thirty minutes available, presenting original tracks and a rearranged cover. The competition, open to artists without age or genre restrictions, is organized by the Pro Loco associations of the Mugello with the coordination of UNPLI Florence APS. The evening is free to attend.
The program for the Scarperia evening is currently being defined. The artists competing for the July 18, 2026 evening will be announced by the organizers after registration closes and the participating acts are selected.
The detailed artistic program will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
