Three weekends among the purple fields of Gattaia, in the hills of Vicchio
Every summer, for three weekends between late June and mid-July, the Mugello hills turn a vibrant shade of purple. The Mugello Lavender Consortium opens its fields to the public with the Open Lavender Fields initiative, an invitation to immerse yourself in the blooming expanses of Lavandula angustifolia, considered one of the finest varieties for its aromatic intensity and quality. In Vicchio, in the Metropolitan City of Florence (Tuscany), the event takes place at the Poggio dei Roti farm, located in the picturesque village of Gattaia.
The experience goes far beyond a simple visit. While walking through the rows of lavender and the surrounding woods, you can relax on the lawns and take part in numerous activities: small musical performances, yoga walks, reiki sessions, honey tastings, and other cultural experiences designed to showcase the local area. Throughout the various days at the Consortium's fields, you will find swing concerts, marching bands, jazz sessions, puppet theatre for children, yoga walks, and relaxation sessions with Tibetan singing bowls, all while immersed in the scent of flowers.
During the opening days, you can discover and purchase products from the farms: essential oil and lavender hydrosol, sachets of dried flowers to scent your linens, lavender and chestnut honey, extra virgin olive oil, and other local specialties. At Poggio dei Roti, you can also pre-order the essential oil or hydrosol from the upcoming harvest, following the complete cycle from flowering to distillation.
The initiative involves several farms associated with the Consortium, distributed across the municipalities of Mugello: in addition to Poggio dei Roti in Gattaia (Vicchio), the La Chiusuraccia farm in Galliano (Barberino di Mugello) and the Fiore Blu farm in Luco (Borgo San Lorenzo) also participate. Each farm offers its own program of activities during the opening weekends, creating a widespread route that highlights the entire territory of the Province of Florence.
Open Lavender Fields is a slow-tourism event perfect for families, photographers, and nature lovers. The lavender bloom offers breathtaking views just a short distance from Florence, and the relaxed atmosphere, filled with music, scents, and flavors, makes for a delightful sensory journey in the green heart of Tuscany. The presence of bees in the lavender fields and the production of honey complete the story of mindful and sustainable agriculture.
The 2026 edition of Mugello Open Lavender Fields confirms the three-weekend opening format: June 27-28, July 4-5, and July 11-12, with continuous hours in the morning (approx. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM) and afternoon (approx. 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM). In Vicchio, in the village of Gattaia, the Poggio dei Roti farm welcomes visitors among the rows of blooming lavender. The initiative, promoted by the Mugello Lavender Consortium, also involves the La Chiusuraccia (Barberino di Mugello) and Fiore Blu (Borgo San Lorenzo) farms.
On various days, spread across the Consortium's fields, the program includes: small musical performances, swing concerts, marching bands, jazz sessions, puppet theatre for children, yoga walks between the rows, reiki practices, and moments with Tibetan singing bowls. Honey tastings and other cultural experiences related to the local area are also offered.

The Vicchio stop is located at the Poggio dei Roti farm, at Frazione Gattaia 111 (Vicchio, FI). By car from Florence, you can reach the Mugello via the SS302 Faentina or, alternatively, the A1 motorway (Barberino di Mugello exit). Given the hilly and rural location of the lavender fields, a car is the most convenient means of transport.
Open continuously during morning and afternoon slots, approximately from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Please check the exact times when booking.
Free admission. Booking is mandatory and must be made directly with the farm. For the Gattaia stop (Poggio dei Roti): call +39 335 7804550 or +39 338 6964667. Places per time slot are limited to ensure the best visitor experience.
Bring a hat, water, and comfortable shoes for walking between the rows. The early morning hours are ideal for photography and enjoying the most intense scent of the lavender.
