Three days dedicated to the High Trails of the Apennines in Pietramala di Firenzuola
The Mountain Festival is a summer event held in Pietramala, a small village in the municipality of Firenzuola, in the heart of the Upper Mugello in Tuscany, in the Province of Florence. Nestled on the Apennine ridge that separates the Tuscan side from the Emilian one, Pietramala is a mountain hamlet that becomes a meeting point for hikers, sports enthusiasts, and outdoor lovers for three days. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Pietramala, which launched the initiative in 2025 with the aim of promoting the local area and its trails.
The heart of the event is the promotion of the High Trails of the Apennines and, in particular, the new AVF100 (Alte Vie di Firenzuola) route, a wild, approximately 100-kilometer hiking loop that crosses forests, ridges, and stunning panoramas within the municipality. The festival features presentations of the route with the participation of CAI sections, trekking associations, and local sports groups, as well as guided walks and excursions to discover the various stages of the trail.
During the festival, the village and its surroundings host numerous activities dedicated to mountain sports, designed for all ages:
Beyond sports, the Mountain Festival offers a program rich in culture and conviviality: live music evenings, photography exhibitions and installations dedicated to mountain culture and landscapes, astronomical observation sessions, and evocative night walks with sunset concerts on the surrounding heights, such as Monte Canda. To complete the experience, there is plenty of street food featuring typical specialties of the Upper Mugello, an opportunity to discover the authentic flavors of this borderland.
The Mountain Festival is much more than a sporting event: it is an opportunity to experience the mountains in a slow and conscious way, enhancing the natural heritage and traditions of a territory that is often little known. Pietramala and Firenzuola welcome visitors, families, and hikers in an authentic and familiar festive atmosphere, immersed in the landscapes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
The second edition of the Mountain Festival takes place in Pietramala, a hamlet of Firenzuola, on August 9, 10, and 11, 2026. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Pietramala, confirms its focus on mountain culture and the promotion of the High Trails of the Apennines and the AVF100 route.
The three days offer guided excursions and walks, outdoor sports activities, musical moments, exhibitions, and street food with the flavors of the Upper Mugello. The detailed program is published on the official website pietramala.org.
