The patronal feast of the rural village of Andria, blending peasant devotion with Ferragosto music

Every year, around Ferragosto, the small rural village of Montegrossoโa hamlet of the municipality of Andria, in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, Apuliaโcelebrates its patron saints with one of the most heartfelt festivals in the region. The Patronal Feast in honor of Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Isidore the Farmer blends religious and civil dimensions in an event that, for generations, has drawn both local residents and many people from Andria who are connected to this corner of the countryside at the foot of the Murgia plateau, not far from Castel del Monte.
The community of Montegrosso shares a deep bond with Saint Isidore the Farmer, the protector of peasants and farm workers: a choice that reflects the agricultural soul of this village, which was born and grew around the masserie (farmhouses) and fields of the Murgia. Beside him, Saint Mary of the Assumption is venerated, whose feast day falls on August 15th, coinciding with the heart of the festivities and the festive atmosphere of the Apulian Ferragosto.
The spiritual aspect of the festival is managed by the Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Isidore Parish and begins in the days leading up to the event with a solemn triduum of preparation. The highlight is the solemnity of August 15th, featuring a Eucharistic celebration and the traditional procession through the village streets, during which the statues of the patron saints are carried among the festively decorated houses, accompanied by the faithful.
Devotion is complemented by a rich civil program organized by the Patronal Feast Committee, with the patronage of the Municipality of Andria, the Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, and the Apulia Region. The evenings are enlivened by concerts, musical performances, shows by local and regional artists, and events dedicated to classic Italian singer-songwriter music. There is no shortage of tastings of traditional Apulian products, which turn the village squares into a place of conviviality where one can rediscover the flavors of the land of Apulia.
Visiting Montegrosso during the patronal feast means discovering an authentic, rural side of Apulia, made of farmhouses, olive groves, and vineyards. The village is located just a few kilometers from Castel del Monte, the famous UNESCO-listed Swabian castle, making it an ideal stop for those who want to combine popular spirituality, fine food, and the exploration of the Andria Murgia territory.
