Guided tours of the village and special openings of the Fortress
Open Week is a regional promotion initiative that, during spring, brings various villages in the Lucchesia and Valdinievole areas to life with guided tours, special openings of historic buildings, and opportunities to get to know the local heritage up close. In Montecarlo, an elegant hillside village in the province of Lucca, in the heart of Tuscany, the program revolves around two complementary experiences: guided walks through the historic center and discounted access to the famous Fortress.
Organized by the Pro Loco Montecarlo APS Association, these guided tours accompany participants along the village streets with a guide who shares stories, curiosities, and anecdotes related to the area. It is an itinerary designed to savor the atmosphere of Montecarlo at a leisurely pace, among views, small squares, and palaces that hold centuries of history. The walk lasts about 40-50 minutes and is completely free: a perfect opportunity for those visiting the village for the first time who want to capture its most authentic soul.
The defensive heart and symbol of the town, the Fortress of Montecarlo dominates the surrounding hills with its Keep, the Tower of Cosimo I, the Guardhouse, the Torre Mozza, and the large garden area. During Open Week, the Fortress offers reduced admission, with a multilingual map full of historical insights that guides visitors through its structures. The visit is suitable for all ages and offers an invaluable view of the Lucca countryside and the Valdinievole.
Known for its winemaking tradition and the scenic setting of the Lucchesia, Montecarlo is a small jewel that rewards those who explore it on foot. Open Week offers the ideal key to access it: a calendar of free or low-cost events that invites residents and tourists to rediscover the historic center, the walls, and the Fortress, while supporting the commercial activities and cultural life of the municipality.
The 2026 edition of the Montecarlo Open Week offered a program divided into two main activities, spread between April 4 and 25. The Pro Loco Montecarlo APS guided visitors through the streets of the historic center, while the Fortress of Montecarlo opened its doors with a discounted ticket and a dedicated multilingual map. A spring event that confirmed the village as one of the most charming destinations in the Lucchesia area.
