Music, historical re-enactment, and devotion at the Sanctuary of Montebruno
The Montebruno Medieval Festival takes place in Garzigliana, a small town in the province of Turin in the heart of the Pinerolo area, at the characteristic Sanctuary of Montebruno. For an entire weekend, the sanctuary, which stands isolated on a small rocky hill on the left bank of the Pellice stream, becomes a stage from another era, capable of weaving together music, historical re-enactment, and deep popular devotion.
The sanctuary, dedicated to Mary Consoler of the Afflicted, has roots in an ancient religious tradition: some sources point to an initial building as far back as the Middle Ages, while a 16th-century fresco fragment is still preserved in the current church, rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century following previous architectural lines. The tripartite facade with its three rose windows, the stone slab roof, and the imposing bell tower make Montebruno a beloved pilgrimage destination and a perfect setting for an event that looks to the past.
The festival is spread over two days, balancing art, history, and moments of reflection:
What makes the Montebruno Medieval Festival special is the encounter between the re-enactment of the past and the spiritual dimension of the place. The public can be carried away by the choir's melodies inside the sanctuary, then watch the drum and flag shows outdoors and experience the religious celebrations that have always enlivened this corner of Piedmont. A precious event for those who love popular traditions, music, and the discreet charm of the Pinerolo area.
Located between Pinerolo and the Pellice plain, Garzigliana is a small community that proudly guards its sanctuary. The Medieval Festival represents one of the best opportunities to discover this territory, made of countryside, villages, and a religious and cultural heritage that continues to attract visitors and devotees.
