The independent film festival of Monferrato

The MonFilmFest — Borderless Cinema Games is one of the most original film events in Piedmont. It takes place in Mombello Monferrato, a small town in the province of Alessandria nestled in the hills of the Casale Monferrato area, and reaches its 24th edition in 2026. It is organized by the cultural association Immagina a.c. APS, which for over twenty years has been bringing directors, screenwriters, and film enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad to these hills.

What sets MonFilmFest apart from a traditional festival is its creative core: 'Seven Days for a Film'. Invited authors have only one week to conceive, shoot, and edit a short film. The challenge is divided into two formats: On Site, for those hosted in Mombello who create their film among the streets and landscapes of Monferrato, and Off Site, for those filming wherever they are in the world. Alongside this competition, the Showcase section offers a selection of short films and independent works produced in recent years, while 'Chat si gira!' explores screenwriting in collaboration with artificial intelligence.

Free screenings and the edition's theme

Screenings are held at Casa Immagina, at Via Rechezzina 4, and are free and open to everyone; an online showcase on the Festhome TV platform also allows viewers to follow the works from afar. The theme of the 2026 edition is 'This land is my land', a tribute to Monferrato and the Planet in all their complexity and beauty, in line with the festival's commitment to sustainability and the UN Agenda 2030 goals.
