Monferrato DanzArte - Hills in Motion is a dance festival that transforms the Municipal Theatre of Casale Monferrato, in the Province of Alessandria, into an international stage every spring. The project, promoted by the Municipality of Fubine Monferrato and the Artesuoni Cultural Association, was created to bring world-class classical and contemporary dance to the heart of the Monferrato, a territory recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its vineyard landscapes. The hills that, as the festival motto suggests, "curve like musical staves," provide the perfect backdrop for a cultural event that blends artistic excellence with the promotion of the Piedmont region.
The Monferrato DanzArte Award
The heart of the event is the Monferrato DanzArte Award, presented annually to a great performer or a prominent company from the European ballet scene. Artistic director Patrizia Campassi curates a program that alternates between famous pas de deux from the classical repertoire and contemporary dance creations, featuring guests from the world's most prestigious companies.
More than just a gala
Beyond the gala evening, the festival offers a choreographic review dedicated to young talent and auteur dance, the "Semi D'Arte" scholarships for emerging performers, the "Libera Connessione" video-dance contest, and musical interludes featuring young musicians from the "A. Vivaldi" Conservatory of Alessandria. The event unfolds across Casale Monferrato and Fubine Monferrato, engaging the entire Casalese Monferrato territory throughout the spring months.

The third edition of Monferrato DanzArte - Hills in Motion spans across Casale Monferrato and Fubine Monferrato, with the grand gala at the Municipal Theatre of Casale as the highlight. The 2026 Monferrato DanzArte Award is presented to Jacopo Bellussi, principal dancer of the Hamburg Ballet, star of the Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse, and currently with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Performers from the Paris Opéra, the National Theatre of Prague, and the Finnish National Ballet take the stage in a program ranging from classical repertoire to neoclassical and contemporary dance. The artistic direction is by Patrizia Campassi.

Saturday, May 30 — "Hills in Motion" Grand Gala
Municipal Theatre of Casale Monferrato, 8:30 PM. Gala evening featuring the presentation of the 2026 Monferrato DanzArte Award to Jacopo Bellussi (principal dancer of the Hamburg Ballet, star of the Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse, currently with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo).

The program includes famous pas de deux and variations from masterpieces such as Coppélia and Grand Pas Classique, a tribute to the tango of Astor Piazzolla, and the new creation Quelques petits rien set to music by Gioachino Rossini, choreographed by Sophie Sarrote (principal dancer at La Scala, ballet master, and choreographer).

Municipal Theatre of Casale Monferrato, 8:30 PM. Contemporary dance review dedicated to young choreographers and new performers, with the presentation of the "Semi D'Arte" scholarships.
Sunday, June 14 — Final Concert in Fubine
Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Fubine Monferrato, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Concert by the Junior Orchestra and the ViValCoro choir of the "A. Vivaldi" Conservatory of Alessandria.

The Municipal Theatre of Casale Monferrato is located in the city's historic center, in the Province of Alessandria. Casale can be reached by car via the A26 motorway (Casale Nord or Casale Sud exits) and by train via the Casale Monferrato station.
