Since 1957, the historic food and wine festival of the Monfalcone area
When an event reaches its sixty-ninth edition, it means it has become part of a city's identity. The Monfalcone Wine and Fish Festival was born in 1957 and is one of the most historic food and wine events in Friuli Venezia Giulia: an event that every June fills the town squares and brings together the culture of Friulian wine with the flavors of the Adriatic Sea.
The pairing is what gives the festival its name: the wines of Friuli, from Ribolla Gialla to Friulano, and the fish of the Adriatic, the star of fried dishes, grilled specialties, and traditional coastal cuisine. Tastings wind through Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Unità d'Italia, and Via della Basilica, in a route that also involves local restaurateurs.
Over the years, the festival has grown into a rich program: show cooking, live concerts, DJ sets, conferences, and the traditional Bisiac tombola, which evokes the dialect and spirit of the Monfalcone area. The summer carnival floats are also present, in a mix of taste and folklore that is the event's hallmark. In 2026, Monfalcone joined the National Association "Città del Vino" (Towns of Wine), confirming the value the city places on this tradition.
Monfalcone, in the province of Gorizia, is a city of the sea and major shipbuilding, overlooking the upper Adriatic between the Isonzo river mouth and the Karst plateau. The festival is the ideal time to discover it, combining the conviviality of the squares with a visit to the Rocca (fortress), the MuCa (shipbuilding museum), and the nearby beaches of Marina Julia.
The 69th edition of the Wine and Fish Festival runs from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, in the center of Monfalcone. The town squares host tasting stands, while the program alternates gastronomic, musical, and cultural moments.
The 2026 edition is enriched with significance: Monfalcone has joined the National Association "Città del Vino" (Towns of Wine), highlighting the city's connection to Friulian wine culture.
The festival takes place from June 12 to 14, 2026, in Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Unità d'Italia, and Via della Basilica. The full program will be announced by the Pro Loco in the preceding weeks. Based on recent editions, the following are expected:
How to get there: Monfalcone is served by the A4 motorway (Monfalcone-Lisert exit) and the train station on the Venice-Trieste line. The town squares are a short walk from the station.
Admission: free. Tastings are paid.
Accommodation: hotels and B&Bs in Monfalcone and along the coast of Marina Julia and Grado.
