Sunday markets featuring farm-to-table products from local farmers and artisans
The Moncenisio Summer Markets are the event that brings the town of Moncenisio to life every summer. This tiny alpine village in the Cenischia Valley is nestled at the foot of the Moncenisio Pass in Piedmont. With its very few inhabitants, Moncenisio is one of the smallest municipalities in Italy: for this reason, the Sunday market becomes a precious meeting point, attracting residents, vacationers, and hikers passing through on the mountain road.
The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Moncenisio, was created to showcase local commerce and support small local businesses. The stalls feature farm-to-table products from local farms and artisans: depending on the producers present, you can find alpine cheeses, honey, jams, mountain herbs and vegetables, preserves, and traditional handicrafts. It is a great opportunity for conscious shopping, meeting the people who grow and produce the goods, and taking home the authentic taste of the Turin valleys.
The markets are held every Sunday during the summer months, with continuous hours from morning to evening, in the town's new market area along Via Regione Lago. Admission is free, and the outdoor setting at high altitude makes the visit pleasant even on the hottest summer days, when Moncenisio offers the refreshing coolness of the alpine climate.
The location of Moncenisio makes the market the ideal starting point for a day in the mountains: the village is the Italian gateway to the Moncenisio Pass, a historic crossing between Piedmont and Savoy, and is located a short distance from the large artificial lake and the trails that cross the plateau. After browsing the stalls, many visitors continue toward the pass for a hike or a scenic stop.
More than just a fair, the Summer Markets represent a way for the Moncenisio community to keep village life vibrant during the summer season and to introduce visitors to the identity of this corner of the Province of Turin. Dates and the list of participating producers are published annually on the Municipality's official portal.
Moncenisio can be reached by car from the lower Susa Valley: from Susa, drive up the Moncenisio Pass road (SS25) until you reach the village. The nearest train station is in Susa, from where you can continue by car or local transport services.
The markets take place on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free and the area is outdoors.
Being at high altitude, it is advisable to bring a warm layer even in summer. We recommend combining your visit with a walk toward the Pass and the Moncenisio lake. For updated dates and the list of producers, please check the Municipality of Moncenisio website.
