Carnival festivities in the heart of a Monferrato hilltop village
Moncalvo in Maschera is the dedicated Carnival event that enlivens the historic center of Moncalvo, one of the most picturesque villages in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Monferrato region of Piedmont. For an entire afternoon, the town squares and streets fill with confetti, masks, and joy, in a celebration designed to engage families and children above all.
During the event, the village squares are transformed into true hubs of creativity and fun. The offerings include:
The parade is the highlight of the day: masks, costumes, and colorful groups march through the village streets, creating a lively, festive atmosphere that honors the best of Piedmontese Carnival tradition.
Moncalvo sits in a panoramic position among the Monferrato hills, a territory famous for its wines and white truffles. The Carnival is part of a rich calendar of festivities that animate the village throughout the year, from the autumn Truffle Fair to summer events. The masquerade festival is organized thanks to the efforts of the Comitato Eventi and the Pro Loco di Moncalvo, who work with local associations every year to offer a day of celebration accessible to everyone.
More than just a large float parade, Moncalvo in Maschera is a family-oriented village festival: an opportunity to stroll through the historic center, entertain the children, and breathe in the authentic atmosphere of a small Monferrato town. The day is often enriched by cultural appointments, such as performances from the theatrical season at the Teatro Comunale, combining entertainment and culture over the same weekend.
The 2026 edition of Moncalvo in Maschera was held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM. The village squares were transformed into workshop and play areas, with face painting, inflatables, and entertainment for the little ones.
The central moment was the grand masquerade parade through the historic center of Moncalvo. In the afternoon, coinciding with the festivities, the Teatro Comunale hosted the play "Un giardino di aranci fatti in casa" as part of the 2025-2026 theatrical season, combining family entertainment with cultural offerings.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Moncalvo (province of Asti, Piedmont), across the town's squares and streets.
By car: Moncalvo can be reached via the A21 motorway (Asti Est exit) and the A26, following the scenic roads of the Monferrato hills. By train: the reference station is Asti, from which you can continue by bus or car towards Moncalvo.
The event is held in the afternoon, starting at 3:00 PM, and is designed specifically for families and children. Admission to the festival areas and the parade in the center is free.
