Shrove Tuesday celebrations in Torcegno, Valsugana
Every year on Shrove Tuesday, the small hamlet of Molini in Torcegno—a municipality in the Lower Valsugana valley, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige)—comes alive with one of the most genuine and characteristic Carnival celebrations in the area. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense: no flashy big-city floats, but rather a warm, community-focused afternoon designed for families and children, filling a quiet corner of the valley with color, music, and laughter.
The heart of the festival is the children's entertainment: games, music, and magic shows take place throughout the afternoon, amidst colorful masks and playful pranks in true Carnival style. The atmosphere is that of a simple, cheerful community gathering, where everyone, young and old, comes together to bid farewell to the Carnival season before the start of Lent.
The culinary highlight is a must, featuring the classic pasta party and, above all, grostoli (also known as crostoli or frappe)—thin, fried pastry sheets dusted with powdered sugar, which are the iconic sweet of the Trentino Carnival. Preparing and sharing them is an integral part of the tradition: the scent of fried dough, sugar, and conviviality captures the spirit of this festival better than any words.
The festival takes place in the Molini area of Torcegno, easily accessible from the Lower Valsugana. The event is scheduled for the afternoon of Shrove Tuesday and is organized by the Pro Loco of Torcegno, which manages the entertainment, catering, and hospitality. It is the perfect opportunity to experience Carnival in an authentic way, far from the crowds of major events, immersed in the popular traditions of Trentino.
The Carnival Festival in the Molini area of Torcegno returns in 2026 on Shrove Tuesday, February 17, starting at 3:00 PM. As is tradition, the afternoon is dedicated to families and children, with masks, games, and widespread joy.
The Pro Loco of Torcegno once again offers a program designed for everyone's enjoyment, with a pasta party and grostoli to end the day on a sweet note.
The full program details will be released by the Pro Loco of Torcegno in the days leading up to the event.
