About Misterbianco Wine Awards

The Misterbianco Wine Awards is an annual wine competition and festival held in the municipality of Misterbianco, near Catania, celebrating the finest viticultural excellence of Sicily. Launched in 2023, the event brings together around a hundred wineries from Mount Etna and across the island, featuring tasting counters, masterclasses, sensory workshops, and a red-carpet awards ceremony crowning the best Sicilian wines. It is a showcase dedicated to the region, wine tourism, and local Sicilian products, organized by the Municipality in partnership with ONAV Catania and Slow Food Catania.

A wine festival at the foot of Mount Etna

The Misterbianco Wine Awards is one of the most dynamic oenological events in the province of Catania. Every year, the festival transforms the municipality of Misterbianco, on the outskirts of the Etnean capital, into a grand showcase for Sicilian wine: over one hundred wineries from Mount Etna and the entire island present their labels to the public and a technical jury of expert tasters. The event blends the prestige of a wine competition with the atmosphere of a popular festival open to all, featuring tasting counters, culture, and local gastronomy.

The competition and awards ceremony

At the heart of the event is the wine competition, with evaluations conducted by the technical jury of ONAV (National Organization of Wine Tasters). The best wines are honored during a red-carpet ceremony, with awards presented in various categories: best sparkling wine, best white wine, best rosé, and best red wine. All participating wineries also receive a certificate of merit, fostering a spirit of shared appreciation for the island's exceptional production.

Tastings, masterclasses, and the culture of taste

Alongside the competition, the Misterbianco Wine Awards offers a rich program of activities open to visitors:

  • Tasting counters featuring hundreds of labels from Sicilian wineries;
  • Masterclasses and sensory workshops led by experts;
  • Conferences on wine, olive oil, agri-food, wine tourism, and hospitality;
  • Cooking shows, live music, and DJ sets to close the evenings.

Misterbianco, gateway to Mount Etna

Located in the Province of Catania, Sicily, Misterbianco is a lively town in the Etnean belt, well-connected to the city and overlooking the volcanic landscape that produces some of the island's most renowned wines. The event is held at the "Nelson Mandela" Gallery on Via Giuseppe Barone, a space that becomes the drawing room of Sicilian wine for two days. The event is organized by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Misterbianco, in collaboration with ONAV Catania and Slow Food Catania, with the patronage of the Sicilian Region and the Metropolitan City of Catania.

Why attend

For wine enthusiasts, curious tourists, and industry professionals, the Misterbianco Wine Awards is the ideal opportunity to discover the oenological richness of Sicily in one place, engage with producers, and experience the deep connection between wine, culture, and the land that defines the island's wine tourism.

Misterbianco Wine Awards — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Misterbianco Wine Awards—the fourth of the event—is highly anticipated following the success of previous years, though official dates and the program have not yet been announced by the organizers. In recent years, the event has been held at the beginning of summer at the "Nelson Mandela" Gallery in Misterbianco, featuring tasting counters, masterclasses, and the awards ceremony for the best Sicilian wines. It is recommended to follow the official channels of the Municipality of Misterbianco for updates.

At the conclusion of the 2025 edition, the organizers announced the fourth edition of the Misterbianco Wine Awards, signaling the continuity of the event. At the moment, however, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced and the detailed program is not yet available.

Based on recent editions, the event is expected to confirm its formula: a wine competition with an ONAV jury, tasting counters with Sicilian wineries, masterclasses, and sensory workshops at the "Nelson Mandela" Gallery in Misterbianco, in the province of Catania. To find out updated dates, programs, and entry methods, please consult the official channels of the Municipality of Misterbianco.
