The Bavarian beer festival at Mercato Centrale Rome
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Merktoberfest is the autumn event where Mercato Centrale Rome celebrates the month of beer, bringing Bavarian tradition just a stone's throw from Termini Station. Hosted in the historic pavilion on Via Giolitti, within the Esquilino district, the event saves you a flight to Munich: simply step through the market doors to immerse yourself in a journey of German flavors, select beers, and great conviviality.
For the occasion, each of the market's artisan stalls adds a dish inspired by German tradition to its menu, designed to pair perfectly with the event's official beers. Specialties featured in past editions include beer-braised pork shank from the butcher, Oktoberfest-style pizza with sauerkraut and sausage from the bakery, and hot dogs with beer-stewed onions from the stall dedicated to Chianina beef burgers. A delicious journey that blends the gastronomic soul of the Roman market with the spirit of Northern European beer festivals.
The heart of the festival is, naturally, the beer, served at the Market's Beer Hall and at individual stalls in various sizes, from glasses to large one-liter steins. The featured labels are Baffo d'Oro and the German Erdinger, a symbol of Bavarian Weissbier, for a toast that evokes the atmosphere of the Munich Oktoberfest tents.
The highlight of the festival is the Grand Oktoberfest Evening, featuring a beer-tapping masterclass at Spazio Fare, where you can discover the art of pouring the perfect pint, followed by live folk music that enlivens the market's central square. It is the best way to experience the festival in its most festive and engaging form.
Merktoberfest is part of the rich calendar of events at Mercato Centrale Rome, a gastronomic landmark in the City of Rome, in the Lazio region, where food artisans offer fresh bread, meat, fish, pasta, pastries, and quality cuisine every day. Its strategic location next to Termini, in the Esquilino district, makes the festival easily accessible for both locals and tourists, set within a lively and multicultural urban context.
The 2026 edition of Merktoberfest at Mercato Centrale Rome has not yet been officially announced. Based on the calendar of previous editions, the Bavarian beer festival is expected to take place between the second half of September and the first days of October, featuring the participation of market stalls and the traditional Grand Oktoberfest evening.
Mercato Centrale Rome is located at Via Giolitti 36, inside the Mazzoniana wing of Termini Station, in the Esquilino district. It is easily reachable on foot from Termini, a hub for trains, the metro (lines A and B), and buses.
