About Memory Walk

Every April 25th, on Liberation Day, the Municipality of Visone and the local Pro Loco invite the community to the Memory Walk through the places of the Resistance. This commemorative day combines official ceremonies at monuments and plaques dedicated to local partisans with a Holy Mass at the parish church of SS. Pietro e Paolo, followed by an afternoon walk through the symbolic sites of the Liberation struggle, complete with a snack hosted by the Pro Loco.

April 25th in Visone

The Memory Walk through the Places of the Resistance is the annual event through which the Municipality of Visone, a small village in the Alessandria province of Piedmont, celebrates Liberation Day on April 25th. This is far more than a formal institutional ceremony: it is a deeply participatory day that weaves together reflection, the remembrance of those who fell for freedom, and a collective walk through the sites that safeguard the village's partisan history.

The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Visone in collaboration with the Pro Loco, is open to all residents and visitors. It is a unique opportunity to discover the local history of the Resistance by walking the trails and visiting the hamlets where monuments to Visone's partisans are located.

A Morning of Commemoration

The day begins in the morning with a commemoration at the plaques and monuments dedicated to the Partisans and Martyrs of Freedom from Visone, starting from the Belvedere della Rocca di Visone, the ancient core dominated by the tower of the Malaspina castle. The procession then continues to the municipal cemetery square, where those who died for freedom are honored. This is followed by Holy Mass in the parish church of SS. Pietro e Paolo.

The Afternoon Walk

In the afternoon, the walk itself begins, visiting the four most significant sites of local memory: the Municipal Gardens dedicated to partisan Giorgio Andreutti, the Catanzo region with the monument in memory of Enea Ivaldi, the Cascina Bricchetto honoring Michele Pittavino, and finally returning to the municipal cemetery for the closing ceremony. Along the way, the Pro Loco provides a snack for all participants.

A Small Village That Does Not Forget

Visone is a village of just over a thousand inhabitants, yet its history is profoundly tied to the Resistance; the streets and landmarks of the village bear the names of fallen partisans. The Memory Walk is the community's way of keeping this bond alive, passing on the meaning of April 25th to new generations through a journey of steps, stories, and quiet reflection.

Memory Walk — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Memory Walk took place on Saturday, April 25th, for Liberation Day. A day of commemoration and reflection promoted by the Municipality of Visone and the Pro Loco, featuring a morning ceremony at the partisan plaques, Holy Mass, and an afternoon walk through the symbolic sites of the local Resistance.

The 2026 Memory Walk was held on Saturday, April 25th in Visone, in the Province of Alessandria. The day followed the traditional program, consisting of a morning commemoration and an afternoon walk open to the entire population, with a snack provided by the Pro Loco.

As every year, the initiative combined the remembrance of Visone's partisans and martyrs of freedom with the rediscovery of the village's historical landmarks, along a route that touched the Municipal Gardens, the Catanzo region, Cascina Bricchetto, and the municipal cemetery.
