A day of celebration, remembrance, and friendship among the 'Black Feathers' of Monferrato
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the small village of Montaldo Bormida, located in the Monferrato area of the Alessandria province, will dress up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of its Alpini Group. Established in 2006 and named after the Silver Medal of Military Valor Antonio Luigi Riva, the group belongs to the Acqui Terme Section of the National Alpini Association and has been a cornerstone of the village's social and charitable life for two decades.
This anniversary is more than just an internal celebration for the Alpini; it is an event that involves the entire Montaldo Bormida community, invited to stand with their local Alpini. Twenty years of activity means volunteer work, support for municipal initiatives, presence at civil and religious commemorations, and that typical spirit of service that defines the Alpini throughout Italy. The day serves as an opportunity to thank those who, with discretion and consistency, have dedicated their time and energy to the common good.
The festivities begin at 9:00 AM at the Group's headquarters, with the registration of banners and pennants from visiting groups and the traditional Alpini breakfast, a moment of welcome and gathering for all participants.
The ceremonies will be accompanied by the Section Fanfare and the Acqua Ciara Monferrina Choir, adding solemnity and warmth to the morning's most significant moments.
The convivial heart of the celebration is the Alpini lunch, the community meal that has always accompanied the gatherings of the 'Black Feathers'. Reservations are required to attend; please book by Wednesday, June 17, and mention any food allergies or intolerances. It is a time when friendship, memories, and stories intertwine around the table, in the spirit of Alpini tradition.
Set among the vine-covered hills of the Monferrato, Montaldo Bormida is a village that preserves the rural landscape and peasant identity of Piedmont. The Alpini day is also an invitation to discover this corner of the province, characterized by intimate squares, historic churches, and a community that proudly preserves its roots. An event that combines historical memory, a spirit of service, and popular celebration in the heart of the Piedmont Region.
The 20th-anniversary program kicks off at 9:00 AM at the Group's headquarters with the registration of banners and pennants and the Alpini breakfast. At 9:45 AM, the procession reaches Piazza Giovanni XXIII for the flag-raising and tribute to the fallen; at 10:15 AM, the parade continues towards the church of San Michele Arcangelo. At 10:45 AM, official speeches take place in Piazzale don Bisio, followed by Holy Mass at 11:15 AM. After the flag-lowering at 12:30 PM, the Alpini lunch at 1:00 PM in Piazzale della Casiola concludes the day of celebration.
Montaldo Bormida is located in the province of Alessandria, in the Acqui Terme area of Monferrato. By car, it can be reached via the A26 motorway (exit for Acqui Terme) or via the provincial roads connecting the villages of the Acqui area. The nearest train station is Acqui Terme, from which you can continue by car.
The event takes place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to approximately 1:00 PM, across the Alpini Group headquarters, Piazza Giovanni XXIII, the church of San Michele Arcangelo, and the village squares.
Attendance at the ceremonies is free and open to the public. For the Alpini lunch, reservations are required by Wednesday, June 17, noting any allergies or intolerances. For information, please contact the Montaldo Bormida Alpini Group or the ANA Section of Acqui Terme.
