The fun-loving rally for single-speed mopeds along the white roads of Molare, in the Upper Monferrato
La Monferraglia is the fun-loving, strictly non-competitive rally dedicated to single-speed mopeds that has been enlivening the hills of Monferrato for years. It includes a stop in Molare, a small town in the Ovada area of the Province of Alessandria, at the gateway to the Upper Monferrato. It is not a race, but a grand gathering of enthusiasts united by their love for small vintage engines and nature-filled journeys. As the organizers love to say, La Monferraglia is not just an event, but a true philosophy of life, summarized in the motto: "you can do anything... except shift gears!".
In Molare, the event takes place in its famous nocturnal version, the Nait Ediscion. Unlike the spring or autumn editions, participants face the route entirely at night: everyone must be equipped with headlights, torches, and whatever is needed to light the way, turning the white roads of the Ovada area into a moving trail of lights. The atmosphere, suspended between adventure and a village fair, is one of the most beloved features of this summer appointment.
Only single-speed mopeds that comply with the Highway Code can participate: the legendary Ciao, Peugeot 103, Garelli, and other historic 50cc bikes that shaped the history of Italian mobility. A rule as curious as it is essential requires every participant to wear a moustacheโreal or fakeโthe symbol of the event's cheeky and inclusive spirit. There is no shortage of themed costumes (pirates, farmers, cartoon characters) that make the procession even more colorful.
The heart of the Molare stage is the guided tour along the s.p. 207 and the white roads of the Molare territory, featuring hilly climbs and descents, dirt tracks, and glimpses of the Upper Monferrato. Along the route, marked by the organization, there are plenty of refreshment points and social moments that turn the motorized ride into a true day (and night) of celebration.
La Monferraglia is organized by Monfalive s.s.d., a non-profit amateur sports association based in Casale Monferrato. True to its charitable mission, the organization donates the proceeds, after expenses, to associations involved in social work, medical research, and environmental protection. The Molare stage is part of the Monferraglia Classica calendar, which visits various towns in Piedmont every year throughout spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
For one night, Molare becomes the capital of vintage two-wheelers: the roar of the mopeds, the beams of the headlights, and the joy of the participants bring the town and its countryside to life. Today, La Monferraglia is one of the most beloved events in the Ovada area and the entire southern Piedmont, capable of strengthening the bond between automotive tradition, the local territory, and solidarity.
The 2026 edition of La Monferraglia in Molare is scheduled for the weekend of July 11 and 12 and is the 59th "BICH" stage of the Monferraglia Classica calendar. It is the traditional Nait Ediscion, the nocturnal version of the rally, which typically takes place in the evening/night hours (around 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM) along the s.p. 207 and the white roads of the Municipality of Molare.
As per tradition, participation is reserved for single-speed mopeds with a mandatory moustache (real or fake) and, being a night edition, headlights and torches to illuminate the path. The event confirms its charitable mission for 2026 as well, with proceeds destined for local associations.
The event takes place over the weekend of July 11-12, 2026, with the Molare stage of the Monferraglia Classica (59th BICH) and the characteristic nocturnal Nait Ediscion.
The usual format includes a meeting point and participant registration, a group departure for the guided tour on single-speed mopeds along the s.p. 207 and the white roads of the Ovada area (evening/night slot, approximately 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM, with mandatory headlights and lighting), refreshment points along the route, and social moments. There is also the classic fun-loving awards ceremony, assigned via a quiz on the territory or an Instagram photo contest (#Monferraglia).
The detailed program, with precise times and meeting points, will be published on the official website monferraglia.it in the weeks leading up to the event.
Molare is located in the Ovada area, in the Province of Alessandria, and can be reached by car from the A26 Genoa-Gravellona motorway (Ovada exit) and then via local roads. The reference railway station is Ovada, just a few kilometers away. The rally winds along the s.p. 207 and the white roads of the municipal territory.
Participation is reserved for single-speed mopeds that comply with the Highway Code. For the Nait Ediscion, it is mandatory to be equipped with headlights, torches, and adequate lighting. For information on registration, regulations, and schedules, it is recommended to consult the official website monferraglia.it.
Don't forget your moustache (real or fake), an integral part of the event's fun-loving spirit. For the night version, suitable clothing, serviced vehicles, and good personal lighting are essential.
