International chamber music festival across Pulsano, Taranto, and Martina Franca
The Mediterraneo Chamber Music Festival is an international chamber music series that brings the town of Pulsano, in the province of Taranto, to life every summer in the heart of the Ionian Puglia. Created to bring great chamber music to the territory's iconic locations, the festival was founded and is directed by Taranto-born pianist Romolo Ludovico Lanza and organized by the Cultura Mediterranea association.
The heart of the event is the Cloister of the Convento dei Padri Riformati in Pulsano, a historic open-air space that becomes a concert hall under the stars. The festival also extends to other symbolic locations in the province of Taranto: the 17th-century Palazzo Pantaleo in the old town of Taranto, and Masseria Cappella, a historic estate in the Itria Valley within the territory of Martina Franca.
Conceived as a true «bridge» between geographies and languages, the Mediterraneo creates a dialogue between established performers and young rising stars from all over Europe, particularly from Scandinavian countries (Oslo, Helsinki) and the continent's major conservatories. Alongside the concerts, the program includes international masterclasses, meetings and conferences, a luthier masterclass, photography exhibitions, and moments of conviviality centered on Apulian food and wine.
The repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the 20th century, with works by Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Debussy, and Beethoven performed in chamber ensembles. Some events dedicated to the young musicians of the Mediterraneo Academy offer free admission, aiming to introduce a wider audience to chamber music. Wine tastings, gala dinners, and workshops complete an experience that weaves together music, art, and the identity of the Ionian territory.
The second edition, dedicated to the theme of the «Bridge» (connecting Northern Europe and the Mediterranean), was held from June 21 to 30, 2026, under the artistic direction of pianist Romolo Ludovico Lanza.
Performers included Romolo Ludovico Lanza, Christopher Park, Ivan Rabaglia, Andrea Scaffardi, and young Scandinavian musicians such as Birk Landaas, Annariina Jokela, and Joanna Hanhikoski.
Pulsano is located about 20 km from Taranto, along the Ionian coast. By car, it can be reached via the SS7 ter and the provincial roads connecting Taranto to the coastal towns. The reference railway station is Taranto, served by regional and national connections, from where you can continue by bus or car.
Some concerts, particularly the «Young People from the World» evenings dedicated to the students of the Mediterraneo Academy, offer free admission; for other events, it is recommended to check the official website and the festival's social media channels for information on reservations and tickets.
