Taranto's musical summer between the two seas, featuring the Orchestra ICO Magna Grecia
The Magna Grecia Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Taranto, the capital city of the province of the same name in Apulia. Every year, between June and August, the festival brings great live music to the most evocative spots in the 'City of the Two Seas': from terraces overlooking the Mar Piccolo and Mar Grande to historic villas nestled in greenery. It is an event that combines symphonic excellence with the popular and convivial atmosphere of summer evenings.
The festival is promoted and produced by the Orchestra ICO Magna Grecia, the Orchestral Concert Institution based in Taranto and Matera, under the artistic direction of Maestro Piero Romano. The festival is supported by the Municipality of Taranto, the Apulia Region, and the Ministry of Culture, demonstrating its institutional roots and the role it plays in the cultural life of the Ionian territory.
The hallmark of the Magna Grecia Festival is its eclecticism: alongside classical music, there is space for grand symphonic tributes to international pop and rock, jazz, Italian singer-songwriters, tango, and flamenco. The lineup features internationally renowned performers alongside young musicians from the Magna Grecia Youth Orchestra, a true nursery for local talent. Concerts are usually held at sunset, around 8:30 PM, to take full advantage of the Apulian summer evenings.
What makes the festival unique is the choice of venues. Evenings take place in signature locations such as the Yachting Club of San Vito, the Relais Histò on the Mar Piccolo, the Mon Rêve Resort, and the Chamber of Commerce Terrace, each with its own view of the sea and the Ionian landscape. Music thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover the evocative corners of Taranto and its coastline.
With affordable tickets, often starting at 5 euros, the Magna Grecia Festival is designed to be accessible to everyone: families, classical music enthusiasts, and curious visitors alike. It is the ideal opportunity to experience the Taranto summer through culture, sunsets over the sea, great orchestras, and tributes to musical legends.
The 2026 edition of the Magna Grecia Festival kicks off on June 19 at the Yachting Club with the opening night "Symphonic Greatest Hits" by the Orchestra ICO Magna Grecia, continuing throughout the summer with a lineup of symphonic and crossover tributes. Following the July 2nd event with Symphonic Flamenco at Relais Histò, the calendar has been rescheduled with new dates through the end of July and into August. The artistic direction of Maestro Piero Romano and the patronage of the Municipality of Taranto, the Apulia Region, and the Ministry of Culture are confirmed.
