About Magna Grecia Festival

Every summer, the Magna Grecia Festival transforms Taranto into a grand open-air stage overlooking its two seas. Curated by the Orchestra ICO Magna Grecia and conducted by Maestro Piero Romano, the festival brings symphonic tributes, jazz, classical music, and crossover performances to evocative venues like the Yachting Club of San Vito, Relais Histò, and Mon Rêve Resort. Expect sunset concerts, affordable tickets starting at 5 euros, and a lineup that blends international stars with young local talent from Taranto.

The Magna Grecia Festival: Taranto's musical summer

The Magna Grecia Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Taranto, the capital city of the province of the same name in Apulia. Every year, between June and August, the festival brings great live music to the most evocative spots in the 'City of the Two Seas': from terraces overlooking the Mar Piccolo and Mar Grande to historic villas nestled in greenery. It is an event that combines symphonic excellence with the popular and convivial atmosphere of summer evenings.

Who organizes the festival

The festival is promoted and produced by the Orchestra ICO Magna Grecia, the Orchestral Concert Institution based in Taranto and Matera, under the artistic direction of Maestro Piero Romano. The festival is supported by the Municipality of Taranto, the Apulia Region, and the Ministry of Culture, demonstrating its institutional roots and the role it plays in the cultural life of the Ionian territory.

A program between symphonic and crossover

The hallmark of the Magna Grecia Festival is its eclecticism: alongside classical music, there is space for grand symphonic tributes to international pop and rock, jazz, Italian singer-songwriters, tango, and flamenco. The lineup features internationally renowned performers alongside young musicians from the Magna Grecia Youth Orchestra, a true nursery for local talent. Concerts are usually held at sunset, around 8:30 PM, to take full advantage of the Apulian summer evenings.

Venues between the two seas

What makes the festival unique is the choice of venues. Evenings take place in signature locations such as the Yachting Club of San Vito, the Relais Histò on the Mar Piccolo, the Mon Rêve Resort, and the Chamber of Commerce Terrace, each with its own view of the sea and the Ionian landscape. Music thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover the evocative corners of Taranto and its coastline.

Why it's worth attending

With affordable tickets, often starting at 5 euros, the Magna Grecia Festival is designed to be accessible to everyone: families, classical music enthusiasts, and curious visitors alike. It is the ideal opportunity to experience the Taranto summer through culture, sunsets over the sea, great orchestras, and tributes to musical legends.
