The medieval historical re-enactment of Roccatederighi, in the heart of the Grosseto Maremma
Medioevo nel Borgo is the grand medieval historical re-enactment that brings Roccatederighi to life every summer. This charming hillside village, a hamlet of the Municipality of Roccastrada in the province of Grosseto, lies in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. For a few days, the old town leaves the present behind and immerses itself in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages: the narrow streets and small squares of the historic center become the stage for a journey back in time in which the entire community participates.
When evening falls, the dim light of lanterns illuminates the cobblestone streets and reveals a distant world: the footsteps of weary farmers, somber pilgrims, and cunning merchants echo through the village. The workshops reopen their doors to display fine fabrics, art objects, and tools of the trade, while the rhythmic sound of clogs and the melodies of minstrels create a truly magical and engaging atmosphere.
Along the streets of the village, numerous attractions alternate to bring the customs and traditions of the era back to life:
Themed musical groups accompany the evenings with period sounds and songs, helping to recreate the atmosphere of an authentic medieval village.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Roccatederighi with the patronage of the Municipality of Roccastrada and the support of the Tuscany Region as part of the calls for historical re-enactment events, Medioevo nel Borgo is now a permanent fixture of the Maremma summer. The event involves dozens of costumed participants and enhances the historical identity and architecture of the village, offering residents and visitors a free popular festival capable of combining entertainment, gastronomy, and culture. A precious opportunity to discover Roccatederighi and the hinterland of Grosseto, among hills, castles, and traditions that have their roots in the medieval past of Tuscany.
The 2026 edition of Medioevo nel Borgo will be held in Roccatederighi on Friday, August 7, Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, 2026, confirming the traditional summer appointment organized by the Pro Loco with the support of the Tuscany Region.
Following the usual format of the event, the medieval gates will open on Friday evening and on Saturday and Sunday in the late afternoon, with the opening of workshops, taverns, a costumed market, and shows along the streets of the village. The detailed program for this year, including times, performances by the historical group, and musical guests, will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
