The Workers' Day celebration in Raffadali, featuring a trade union parade, local traditions, and a major free concert in Piazza Progresso.
In the town of Raffadali, in the province of Agrigento, Labor Day has long been much more than just a public holiday. Promoted by the Pro Loco of Raffadali in collaboration with the local municipality and the CGIL, CISL, and UIL trade unions, the event brings Piazza Progresso and the town center to life with a program that weaves together social awareness, folk traditions, sports, and great live music.
The Raffadali May Day preserves the original meaning of the occasion: the trade union parade and the rally in the square honor the value of labor and workers' rights. Alongside the civic dimension, the festival embraces the community with moments of strong local identity: the folkloric parade through the streets, the procession of flower-decorated floats dedicated to the world of work, and the town marching band that accompanies the day's festivities.
The program also reserves ample space for sports and activities for families and children, including road races, traditional games, tournaments, and entertainment. There is also a special focus on inclusion, with activities dedicated to mototherapy, and the recognition of local figures through the presentation of the "Person of the Year" and "Entrepreneur of the Year" awards, organized by the Pro Loco.
The beating heart of the festival remains the free evening concert in Piazza Progresso, which brings major names in Italian music to Raffadali every year. It is an event capable of attracting thousands of people not only from the Agrigento area but from all over Sicily, transforming the square into a large open-air stage. Admission is free, in the spirit of a popular festival open to all.
The 2026 edition of the Labor Day celebration in Raffadali spanned two days. On Thursday, April 30, Piazza Progresso hosted recreational activities dedicated to mototherapy, a folkloric parade through the town streets with a performance by the "Kerkent Città di Agrigento" group, and in the evening, the "Waiting for May 1st" show with the Gruppo Orchidea and "I Falsi d'Autore," along with the presentation of the "Person of the Year" and "Entrepreneur of the Year 2025" awards.
Friday, May 1, the day opened with a tour by the "Amici della Musica – Nuova Banda Città di Raffadali" band, conducted by Maestro Alfonso Barba. Throughout the day, there was space for the 1st City of Raffadali Trophy, a road race organized by the ASD Raffadali Runners, as well as games and tournaments. In the afternoon, the CGIL, CISL, and UIL trade union parade took place, followed by the procession of flower-decorated floats and a rally in the square with Mayor Silvio Cuffaro.
The grand finale featured a free concert by Giusy Ferreri, who kicked off her "Live 2026" tour right here in Raffadali. The show, with free admission, was produced under the artistic direction of Nuccio La Ferlita.
Raffadali is located a few kilometers from Agrigento, in the Sicilian hinterland. By car, it can be reached via the SS189 (Agrigento–Palermo) by taking the exit towards Raffadali. The reference railway station is Agrigento, which is connected to the town by local bus lines. The nearest airport is Palermo Falcone-Borsellino, about a two-hour drive away.
The hub of the event is Piazza Progresso, in the center of Raffadali, where rallies, performances, and the evening concert are held.
All activities are free of charge and do not require reservations. For the evening concert, it is recommended to arrive well in advance to secure a spot in the square and to plan for parking in the areas surrounding the town center.
