Three days of concerts, dancing, and street food in Piazza Vittorio Veneto
May 1st Music is the festival that celebrates the Labor Day long weekend in Calenzano, in the province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. Following the success of the 2025 debut, which was held on May 1st alone, the event has expanded to cover all three days of the first weekend in May, turning Piazza Vittorio Veneto into a sprawling stage for live music, dance, and street food.
Calenzano is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Florence, overlooking the plain that connects the Tuscan capital to Prato. The event was born from a desire to give the town square back to the community for the Labor Day holiday, with a program that highlights local young musicians: local bands and music school students are the true stars of the event, joined by a wider range of guest performers.
The program offers a mix of genres and appeals to all ages. It ranges from debut performances by youth bands to Balkan and Mediterranean rhythms, from Salento's pizzica to Armenian melodies, and even the nostalgia of 90s hits and local vocal ensembles. It is a program designed for families, young people, and music lovers, with live music as the common thread throughout the evenings.
Alongside the concerts, the square hosts a street food area where visitors can enjoy outdoor specialties, while dance events engage the public between concerts. Admission is free for all events.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Calenzano in collaboration with VAB, the Calenzano Music School, and the Calenzano Tourist Association, with the support of Unicoop Firenze โ Sesto Fiorentino Calenzano section. It is a prime example of a community festival where local institutions, associations, and musical groups work together to bring the Tuscan town center to life.
In 2026, May 1st Music extended over the three days of the first weekend of May in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, with free admission. The event combined concerts by young local bands with wider-reaching guest artists, accompanied by dancing and street food throughout the evenings.
The street food area is open every day.
