The southernmost book festival in Europe, set in the seaside village of Marzamemi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Marzamemi Book Fest is a literary event held in the charming seaside village of Marzamemi, a hamlet of the municipality of Pachino on the southeastern tip of Sicily, in the province of Syracuse. Known as "the southernmost book festival in Europe," the event brings books and reading to the stone houses, small squares, and the spaces of the ancient Tonnara, in a unique landscape overlooking the sea.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Regina Margherita, which comes alive for four days with author meetings, book presentations, readings, dialogues, and masterclasses. Events extend to the most characteristic spots of the village, from the Loggia della Tonnara to the open-air spaces facing the sea. The festival combines the written word with music, theater, and a rich selection of free workshops dedicated to writing, reading, comics, and acting, with a special focus on youth education.
The Marzamemi Book Fest was born with the goal of promoting books and reading by connecting them with local development practices, based on the belief that historical sites are preserved when they find new meaning in people's lives. The event was conceived by Barbara Fronterrè and is organized by the social promotion association "Un paese ci vuole", under the artistic direction of journalist and writer Sabina Minardi, head of the cultural pages of the weekly magazine L'Espresso, the festival's long-standing media partner.
All Marzamemi Book Fest events are free to attend: meetings, concerts, shows, and workshops are open to locals and the many visitors who reach this corner of Sicily every year. The festival has become a highly anticipated date in the autumn cultural calendar of the province of Syracuse and the entire Sicily region, successfully blending high-quality literary offerings with the beauty of the village of Marzamemi.
The Marzamemi Book Fest will return to the seaside village of Marzamemi, a hamlet of Pachino (province of Syracuse, Sicily region), for a new edition. At the moment, the official website indicates the upcoming edition, but the 2026 dates and program have not yet been announced. As per tradition, an autumn weekend of author meetings, music, theater, and free workshops with free admission is expected. Detailed information will be published as soon as it becomes available.
