The running race of the hamlet of Marino del Tronto, in the heart of the patronal feast of Saint Anthony Abbot
The Marino Run is the running event that, every year in spring, transforms the streets of Marino del Tronto, a hamlet in the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region, into a large race circuit. Organized by Atletica Team Piceno, the race is part of the calendar of celebrations in honor of Saint Anthony Abbot, the patron saint of the hamlet, and has now become one of the most cherished events by the local community and the running world of Piceno.
The Marino Run is valid for the Criterium Piceni&Pretuzi circuit, the network of road races that connects the territory between Ascoli Piceno and Teramo. The competitive race covers a distance of 8 kilometers, divided into two laps of 4 kilometers each, which wind through the streets of the hamlet with the start and finish line on via dei Peschi, near the elementary school. Alongside the competitive race, there is also a non-competitive fit walking event, one lap long, designed for those who want to participate in the celebration without the pressure of the stopwatch.
The charm of the Marino Run lies in its connection with the patronal feast of Saint Anthony Abbot: the race is not just a competition, but the sporting moment of a broader community day, made up of stands, music, and conviviality among the villagers. It is this popular and family-friendly dimension that distinguishes it from large city races and makes it a small gem in the running calendar of the Province of Ascoli Piceno.
At the end of the race, the top three overall finishers, both male and female, and the top five in each category are awarded, as well as the most numerous regional and extra-regional clubs: a recognition of the event's unifying value, capable of attracting sports groups from all over central Italy. The distribution of bibs and the late afternoon start allow participants to experience the race in the cooler and brighter hours of a spring day.
Marino del Tronto is a hamlet of Ascoli Piceno overlooking the Tronto Valley, a short distance from the historic center of Ascoli. Participating in the Marino Run is also a way to discover this lesser-known corner of the Piceno territory, amidst hills, countryside, and the authenticity of a community that comes together around its patron saint and the passion for running.
The VIII edition of the Marino Run took place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the hamlet of Marino del Tronto, Ascoli Piceno, as part of the celebrations for the patron saint Saint Anthony Abbot.
