The race that unites Ascoli Piceno and San Benedetto del Tronto along the ancient Via Salaria
The Salaria Run is the running event that brings to life one of the most evocative routes in the Marche: the descent from the hinterland of Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast of San Benedetto del Tronto, following the path of the ancient Via Salaria, the Roman road along which salt was transported in ancient times. The race takes up the legacy of the historic Ascoli-San Benedetto marathon, a race that for years represented an identity-defining event for runners in the area.
The race offers two competitive distances that share the same finish line on the San Benedetto del Tronto seafront:
Both routes follow the course of the Tronto river and pass through the municipalities of the valley, offering participants a succession of landscapes that lead from the hills of the Piceno region to the Adriatic Sea.
The Salaria Run is organized by Adriatic Series, the consortium that brings together AVIS Ascoli Marathon and Flipper Triathlon Ascoli, with the collaboration of sports associations from the entire Tronto Valley and the support of the Municipalities crossed. In addition to the competitive aspect, the event has a strong focus on solidarity and territorial promotion: it unites the provincial capitals of Ascoli Piceno and the villages between them in a single celebration of sport.
More than just a race, the Salaria Run has become an event that networks the entire southern area of the Marche region, from the travertine walls of Ascoli to the palm trees of the San Benedetto seafront. For road running enthusiasts, it represents an opportunity to cover a historically rich itinerary on foot, while for the public, it is a day of celebration that enlivens the squares and streets of the province.
The Salaria Run 2026 will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, along the Ascoli Piceno-San Benedetto del Tronto axis, retracing the ancient Via Salaria. The event, organized by Adriatic Series (AVIS Ascoli Marathon and Flipper Triathlon Ascoli), confirms the format with two competitive distances and a single finish line in Via Buozzi in San Benedetto del Tronto. The race is included in the national running calendar and has a limit of 1,000 participants.
The two races share the finish line and pass through the municipalities of the Tronto Valley. The awards ceremony will be held at the end of the morning at the finish line. Bib collection and pre-race briefing will take place in the days preceding the race (details and times on the official Adriatic Series website).
The start of the 33.5 km race is in Piazza Arringo, in the historic center of Ascoli Piceno (A14 exit San Benedetto del Tronto, then Ascoli-Mare link road; by train, Ascoli Piceno station). The half marathon starts from the Castel di Lama station. The finish line is in Via Buozzi, on the seafront of San Benedetto del Tronto.
Registration is done online on the ENDU portal, via Adriatic Series. Maximum number of participants: 1,000. Fees increase as the race approaches (discounted rates for early registration).
Bib with chip, shuttle bus, bag transport, aid stations along the route and at the finish, medical assistance, commemorative medal, and final pasta party. Timing by Sport for You S.r.l.
