About Salaria Run

The Salaria Run is the running race that retraces the ancient Via Salaria, connecting the historic center of Ascoli Piceno to the Riviera of San Benedetto del Tronto. A long-distance challenge between mountain and sea, with two competitive routes (33.5 km and a half marathon of 21.1 km), which revives one of the most beloved running traditions of the Piceno region and crosses the entire Tronto Valley, in the Marche.

From Ascoli to the Sea Along the Via Salaria

The Salaria Run is the running event that brings to life one of the most evocative routes in the Marche: the descent from the hinterland of Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast of San Benedetto del Tronto, following the path of the ancient Via Salaria, the Roman road along which salt was transported in ancient times. The race takes up the legacy of the historic Ascoli-San Benedetto marathon, a race that for years represented an identity-defining event for runners in the area.

Two Routes Between Mountain and Sea

The race offers two competitive distances that share the same finish line on the San Benedetto del Tronto seafront:

  • 33.5 km: the main event, starting from the monumental heart of Ascoli Piceno, in Piazza Arringo, in front of the Cathedral of Sant'Emidio.
  • Half Marathon (21.1 km): starting from the Castel di Lama station, designed for those who prefer a shorter but equally scenic distance.

Both routes follow the course of the Tronto river and pass through the municipalities of the valley, offering participants a succession of landscapes that lead from the hills of the Piceno region to the Adriatic Sea.

Sport, Community, and Solidarity

The Salaria Run is organized by Adriatic Series, the consortium that brings together AVIS Ascoli Marathon and Flipper Triathlon Ascoli, with the collaboration of sports associations from the entire Tronto Valley and the support of the Municipalities crossed. In addition to the competitive aspect, the event has a strong focus on solidarity and territorial promotion: it unites the provincial capitals of Ascoli Piceno and the villages between them in a single celebration of sport.

An Event for the Entire Piceno Region

More than just a race, the Salaria Run has become an event that networks the entire southern area of the Marche region, from the travertine walls of Ascoli to the palm trees of the San Benedetto seafront. For road running enthusiasts, it represents an opportunity to cover a historically rich itinerary on foot, while for the public, it is a day of celebration that enlivens the squares and streets of the province.
