Brolo's sea festival

The Marina Festival is one of the most cherished events of the summer in Brolo, a small coastal town in the province of Messina, along the Tyrrhenian coast of the Nebrodi in Sicily. Devotion to the Madonna dei Pescatori

The deepest meaning of the festival is religious: the community pays homage to the Madonna dei Pescatori, protector of seafarers. The most emotional moment is the re-emergence of the Christ of the Abyss, the submerged statue that is brought back to the surface in front of the coast, a ritual that moves attendees every year. This is accompanied by the sea procession which, at sunset, escorts the statue towards the rock, which has always been a symbol of the Brolo community.

Among the most anticipated events is the 'ntinna a mari, the ancient greasy pole game suspended over the water that draws applause and laughter.
