Brolo's sea festival in honor of the Madonna dei Pescatori
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Marina Festival is one of the most cherished events of the summer in Brolo, a small coastal town in the province of Messina, along the Tyrrhenian coast of the Nebrodi in Sicily. For two days, the heart of the town shifts to the promenade and the characteristic seaside district, where faith, tradition, and entertainment merge into one great celebration dedicated to the sea and those who live by it every day.
The deepest meaning of the festival is religious: the community pays homage to the Madonna dei Pescatori, protector of seafarers. The most emotional moment is the re-emergence of the Christ of the Abyss, the submerged statue that is brought back to the surface in front of the coast, a ritual that moves attendees every year. This is accompanied by the sea procession which, at sunset, escorts the statue towards the rock, which has always been a symbol of the Brolo community.
Alongside the religious fervor, the Marina Festival retains a popular and joyful spirit. Among the most anticipated events is the 'ntinna a mari, the ancient greasy pole game suspended over the water that draws applause and laughter. The evenings come alive with live music, comedy shows, and an evocative fireworks display over the sea. Local businesses also offer food and wine specialties at special prices, in a festive atmosphere that involves families, residents, and visitors.
Organized by the 'A Marina Association with the support of local businesses, the parish, and many volunteers, the festival is much more than a summer event: it is a moment of cohesion that passes down values of solidarity, faith, and identity from generation to generation. For those visiting the north coast of Sicily in summer, the Marina Festival of Brolo is the ideal opportunity to discover the authentic seafaring tradition of the area.
The dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition of the Marina Festival in Brolo have not yet been announced. Over the years, the festival has taken place in the month of July and features the re-emergence of the Christ of the Abyss, the sea procession towards the rock, the 'ntinna a mari, live music, and fireworks on the promenade. The program will be communicated by the 'A Marina Association and the Municipality of Brolo closer to the event.
The festival takes place in the seaside district and on the Lungomare Ammiraglio Luigi Rizzo in Brolo (ME), in the province of Messina, Sicily.
By car: from the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, take the Brolo-Capo d'Orlando exit, then follow the signs for the promenade. By train: Brolo-Ficarra station on the Tyrrhenian line, a short distance from the town center and the marina.
Admission to the events is free. During the festival, local businesses offer food and wine specialties at special prices. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: it is recommended to check the website of the Municipality of Brolo and the channels of the 'A Marina Association as summer approaches.
