A village festival in the heart of the Roero

The Maria Ausiliatrice Festival is the spring highlight for the village of Cornale, a small community within the municipality of Magliano Alfieri, in the province of Cuneo, nestled in the rolling hills of the Roero region. It is one of those authentic local festivals that capture the soul of rural Piedmont: created to bring the village residents together, it is passionately organized by the Pro Loco del Cornale, which has revitalized its community service through this event.

Three days of conviviality

The festival typically takes place over a weekend in late May, focusing on conviviality and great food—the hallmarks of celebrations in the Langhe and Roero areas. The program alternates between musical evenings, gastronomic moments, and traditional games, all held under a covered structure that ensures the festivities continue regardless of the weather.

• Friday night kicks off with music, featuring a DJ set to animate the first night of celebrations.
• Saturday night is dedicated to the grand dinner featuring meat and seafood paella, accompanied by appetizers, dessert, and wine service, along with live musical entertainment. Reservations are recommended.
• Sunday afternoon is reserved for the tombolata (bingo), an unmissable tradition at these festivals, complete with prizes and a festive village atmosphere.

A bar service remains active throughout the event, and some editions have also featured a charity stall, reflecting the spirit of solidarity that binds the Cornale community.

Discovering the Roero

Attending the Maria Ausiliatrice Festival is also a perfect opportunity to discover the Roero, a land of vineyards, hazelnut groves, and castles overlooking the Langhe. Magliano Alfieri, famous for its 17th-century castle and the Museum of the Landscape, is just a few kilometers from Alba and serves as an ideal starting point to explore this UNESCO World Heritage territory, where farming traditions and Piedmontese culinary excellence meet.
