About mareMMMa

mareMMMa – The Nature of Wine is the benchmark event for discovering the oenological identity of the Tuscan Maremma. Held in the evocative Granaio Lorenese of Spergolaia in Alberese (Grosseto), hundreds of labels from the Maremma Toscana DOC, Montecucco, and Morellino di Scansano appellations are showcased in one grand tasting. With one day dedicated to enthusiasts and another to industry professionals, it is the perfect opportunity to explore Sangiovese, Vermentino, and indigenous grape varieties from a land where the sea, rolling hills, and pristine nature converge.

mareMMMa, the nature of wine in a glass

In the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, in Alberese (a village in the municipality of Grosseto, Tuscany), mareMMMa – The Nature of Wine returns every spring. This grand tasting event brings together the three most representative appellations of the Grosseto territory: Maremma Toscana DOC, Montecucco, and Morellino di Scansano. Born from a collaboration between the three protection consortia, the event has grown to become one of the most anticipated wine gatherings on the Tuscan coast.

A unique setting: the Granaio Lorenese

The event takes place in the central hall of the Granaio Lorenese of Spergolaia, a stunning historic building nestled within the Maremma Regional Park. This location is no coincidence: the space reflects the agricultural and land-reclamation history of the Lorraine era, offering an elegant and intimate setting for visitors to navigate the winery tasting tables.

Tasting the wines of Maremma

mareMMMa offers one of the widest selections in the region, with hundreds of labels presented directly by the producers. Alongside the great Sangiovese-based reds from the Montecucco and Morellino appellations, visitors can sample:

  • White wines, primarily Vermentino, as well as Ansonica, Viognier, Sauvignon, and Chardonnay;
  • Fresh and characterful rosés;
  • Reds from indigenous varieties such as Ciliegiolo, Alicante, and Pugnitello;
  • Super Tuscan-style blends and wines from international varieties.

A particularly appreciated feature is the organization of producers by vineyard origin, grouped by municipality: a way to highlight the deep connection between the wine and the Maremma landscape.

Two days, two audiences

The format includes one day dedicated to wine lovers and enthusiasts, and another reserved for industry professionals—restaurateurs, distributors, wine merchants, and sommeliers—to foster connections between wineries and the professional wine world.

A land between sea and nature

Attending mareMMMa is also an opportunity to discover the Tuscan Maremma, a land of butteri (cowboys), pine forests, wild beaches, and medieval villages. The province of Grosseto is currently one of the most dynamic areas of Tuscan winemaking, successfully blending rural tradition, sustainability, and internationally recognized quality.
