Food and wine walking tour in the upper Val Curone
The Mangialonga of Gremiasco is a non-competitive food and wine walk that traverses one of the most authentic corners of the Piedmontese Apennines. Organized in the municipality of Gremiasco, in the upper Val Curone in the province of Alessandria, the event invites walkers and food lovers to cover a loop of approximately 7.5 km with 280 meters of elevation gain, along the Gremiasco-Ronco-Codevico-Gremiasco trail. The pace is free, and departures are staggered starting at 9:30 AM, allowing everyone to enjoy the route at their own leisure.
What makes this walk special is the series of food and wine stops distributed among the villages along the route. On the trail, you can taste typical local products offered by farms and local producers:
Each stop is accompanied by local wines and beverages, in a journey that celebrates the flavors of the Val Curone's rural tradition.
The route develops largely on dirt paths, crossing woods, badlands, and small villages that characterize this strip of the Apennines. Forest areas occupy just under half of the municipal territory, offering evocative glimpses of wildlife, mushrooms, and chestnuts. Walking here means immersing yourself in an intact rural landscape, far from mass tourism circuits.
More than just a simple hike, the Mangialonga of Gremiasco is a moment of celebration and sharing that unites the desire for outdoor activity with the pleasure of fine dining. The initiative is organized by La Pietra Verde ETS in collaboration with the Municipality of Gremiasco and numerous local entities, with the aim of promoting the territory and its products. It is an event designed for families, groups of friends, and fans of gentle trekking, capable of telling the story of this corner of Piedmont through its flavors.
The 2026 edition, titled "Walk, observe, and taste", brought back the successful format of the food and wine walk in the Municipality of Gremiasco. The loop route of approximately 7.5 km, with 280 meters of elevation gain, led participants from Gremiasco towards the hamlets of Ronco and Codevico before returning to the starting point.
Along the trail, walkers were able to taste local specialties: focaccia and savory pies, salami, pilgrim's bread, cheeses with honey, and, for the grand finale, ravioli and desserts accompanied by local wines. The initiative was organized by La Pietra Verde ETS in collaboration with the Municipality of Gremiasco and Val Curone producers.
