The black gold of Alta Val Tidone on the table and in the woods
The Provincial Review of Black Truffle of Pecorara is the autumn event that, for over thirty years, has celebrated the black gold of Alta Val Tidone. It takes place in Pecorara, a charming hilly hamlet of the Municipality of Alta Val Tidone, in the westernmost part of the province of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna, where oak and hazel woods yield a prized black truffle that has become a true symbol of the territory's identity.
The Nero di Pecorara has obtained the Denominazione Comunale (De.Co.), a recognition that protects its origin and enhances its link with the local community. The review has grown to become a territorial marketing brand, capable of attracting visitors far beyond provincial borders. In January 2026, after the inspectors' visit during the previous edition, the Unpli (National Union of Pro Loco of Italy) officially awarded the prestigious "Sagra di Qualità" mark starting from the 2026 edition: an achievement that rewards the work of the volunteers of the Pro Loco of Pecorara.
The event traditionally unfolds over a weekend in mid-October. Saturday evening is dedicated to the gala dinner "Nero in Tavola" (Black on the Table), hosted in the characteristic spaces of Borgo Mulino Lentino: a multi-course menu entirely built around the black truffle and typical valley products, accompanied by curated wine pairings and moments of gastronomic storytelling. On Sunday, the village comes alive with stalls, while guided walks in the woods depart from the square in the company of the trifolao and their search dogs, to discover the centuries-old art of truffle harvesting firsthand.
Along the village streets, there is a market of typical products and forest delicacies, food stalls with specialties based on black truffle, mushrooms, and Piacenza cured meats, and the convivial atmosphere of traditional Apennine village festivals. The review is also an opportunity to discover Alta Val Tidone, its hills, its hamlets, and the food and wine of a borderland between Emilia, Lombardy, and Liguria.
The 35th edition of the Provincial Review of Black Truffle of Pecorara is set for Sunday, October 18, 2026, according to the 2026 events calendar for Alta Val Tidone. It is the first edition the event will experience with the newly awarded "Sagra di Qualità" mark from Unpli, officially recognized in January 2026.
As tradition dictates, the weekend will revolve around the gala dinner "Nero in Tavola" at Borgo Mulino Lentino (usually on Saturday evening) and the walks in the woods with the trifolao on Sunday, complemented by food stalls and the market of typical products. The full program, including times, menus, costs, and booking procedures, will be published by the Pro Loco of Pecorara and the Municipality of Alta Val Tidone closer to the event.
Pecorara is reached by car from Val Tidone: from Piacenza, follow the SS412 and then the provincial roads towards Nibbiano and Pecorara (approx. 1 hour). Nearest train station: Piacenza, then continue by car or bus.
The "Nero in Tavola" dinner at Borgo Mulino Lentino is limited and requires mandatory reservation (in the previous edition, the cost was €50 per person, with a deposit via bank transfer). Walks in the woods and access to market stalls are generally free.
