The food and wine walking tour through the Po hills, between Lauriano, Cavagnolo, Monteu da Po, and Brusasco
The Mangialonga is one of the most anticipated May Day events in the hilly territory of the province of Turin, in Piedmont. It is not just a simple festival or a race: it is a food and wine walking tour, a slow and convivial stroll that crosses four neighbouring towns โ Lauriano, Cavagnolo, Monteu da Po, and Brusasco โ with delicious stops scattered along the way. At each stage, you pause to taste a local dish or product before setting off again towards the next one.
The trail winds for about 7 kilometres, with an elevation gain of approximately 220 metres, on a path consisting of 60% dirt roads and 40% asphalt: a walk accessible to everyone, including families, offering glimpses of the Po Valley and the hills of the Turin Monferrato. The focal point of the day is the sports field of the Abbazia di Santa Fede in Cavagnolo, on Via San Lorenzo, where the entire loop begins and ends. Along the way, you will encounter iconic local landmarks, such as the San Rocco chapel and local farmhouses, which serve as the day's tasting stations.
The Mangialonga is the result of the collaboration between the Pro Loco associations of Cavagnolo, Lauriano, Monteu da Po, and Brusasco, which join forces every year to set up the stages and welcome the walkers. The event is sponsored by the respective municipalities and supported by the Piedmont Region and Unpli Piemonte. It is a community celebration in the most authentic sense: an opportunity to discover corners of the countryside that often remain off the beaten tourist track, sustained by the hard work of volunteers from the four towns.
If you love walking at a leisurely pace, eating well, and enjoying good company, the Mangialonga is the perfect event to kick off spring. It is ideal for those looking for a genuine local outing, far from mass events, amidst the flavours and landscapes of the Turin hills. A different kind of May Day, to be experienced step by step between Lauriano and the surrounding towns.
For its 25th edition, the Mangialonga returned on Friday, May 1st, 2026 (with a postponement scheduled in case of bad weather) to the hills of the province of Turin.
