Magrè in Festa (Saint Gertrude Feast)

A village festival at the foot of the Oltradige vineyards

Magrè in Festa is the country fair that brings Magrè sulla Strada del Vino (in German Margreid an der Weinstraße) to life every year around mid-August. This small town of just over 1,300 inhabitants is located in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige. The event is tied to the patronal feast of Saint Gertrude, the town's protector, whose celebration falls in August: around this date, the community gathers to honor its patron saint and enjoy a few days of festivities together.

Religious tradition and village conviviality

The festival is born from the meeting of religious devotion and the community spirit typical of South Tyrolean villages. The central moment is the solemn mass in honor of Saint Gertrude, celebrated in the charming parish church of Saint Gertrude, one of the most curious sacred buildings in the Bassa Atesina: the nave and the bell tower are separated by a road—a unique case in South Tyrol—and the interior houses elegant Baroque decorations and a fresco of the saint.

Following the liturgical service, the festival continues with outdoor dining, where local volunteers and associations prepare traditional dishes, a late-afternoon happy hour, live music with concerts and dance evenings, and the unmissable raffle with its prizes.

Magrè is located along the famous South Tyrolean Wine Road, amidst the vineyards and wineries that define the Oltradige landscape.
