Contemporary art and local identity in the Tuscan Maremma
Magliano Contemporanea is a cultural project bringing contemporary art to the medieval village of Magliano in Toscana, in the province of Grosseto, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. Conceived by artistic director Maria Grazia Londrino, a film historian and entrepreneur, the festival aims to create a dialogue between experimental artists and the landscape, history, and productive excellence of a region where nature and rural identity coexist with a vibrant cultural scene.
Each edition features a multi-faceted program: solo and group exhibitions hosted in the historic center, an exhibition trail that highlights the village's iconic landmarks, and the Premio Tavano Amodeo, an award dedicated to two fundamental figures of the local art scene, Manlio Amodeo and Savina Tavanoโa couple in life and art who made Magliano their home for over forty years. The award supports contemporary artistic research and creates a tangible bond between art, the community, and the territory.
The second edition, titled OLEUM, focuses on olive oil as its central theme: a symbol of identity, memory, and the Mediterranean landscape, the 'green gold' of the Maremma becomes a metaphor for the relationship between humanity and the land. The heart of the program is the solo exhibition Estratto by Salvatore Marchesani, winner of the first Premio Tavano Amodeo, alongside the announcement of the 2026 award winners.
As part of the Maremma's cultural calendar, Magliano Contemporanea is a unique opportunity to discover an authentic Tuscan village away from the crowded tourist circuits, combining art visits with strolls through medieval walls, olive groves, and local wineries. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Magliano in Toscana and produced by Dialogues.
The 2026 edition of Magliano Contemporanea is titled OLEUM and focuses on olive oil as a symbol of identity, memory, and the Mediterranean landscape, in dialogue with the productive excellence of the Tuscan Maremma.
The program is curated by artistic director Maria Grazia Londrino, with general production by Dialogues and promotion by the Municipality of Magliano in Toscana.
