Flowers, plants, and local wines in the historic center of Giaveno
Maggionatura is one of the most beloved events in Val Sangone: for over thirty years, every spring, the historic center of Giaveno (Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont) transforms into a large open-air village dedicated to nature, flowers, and local flavors. Traditionally held on the second Sunday of May, the fair attracts hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors from across the Turin area.
Throughout the day, from 9 am to 6 pm, the city's streets and squares host nurseries, farmers, artisans, and hobbyists, offering a wide selection of flowers, ornamental plants, traditional products, honey, and gastronomic specialties. Exhibition spaces are spread across Piazza Sant'Antero, Via XX Settembre in front of the Museo Alessandri, Piazza Sclopis, and Piazza Molines, while exhibitions, demonstrations, and family activities take place throughout the center.
The major addition starting in 2026 is GiaVino, a festival entirely dedicated to promoting local wine, born from an idea by the E020 APS association. In Piazza Sacro Cuore, from 9 am to 7:30 pm, a space dedicated to wineries and producers comes to life with token-based tastings, information points, food stalls, creative workshops for children, and DJ sets. The format, designed as a true "tasting on the move," also involves other squares in the center where wineries are interspersed among the Maggionatura stalls.
The program is packed with initiatives for all ages:
More than just a market fair, Maggionatura is a community celebration that honors the identity of Val Sangone: a love for greenery, quality craftsmanship, and the authentic flavors of Piedmont. With the arrival of GiaVino, the event combines a passion for gardening with the rediscovery of local food and wine in a lively atmosphere suitable for the whole family.
The 2026 edition had a unique journey: scheduled for Sunday, May 10, it was postponed to Tuesday, June 2, the day of the Republic Day, due to bad weather. The postponement did not dampen the enthusiasm: the streets and squares of the historic center welcomed hundreds of exhibitors from 9 am to 6 pm.
The major novelty was GiaVino, the first festival entirely dedicated to local wine, created by the E020 APS association chaired by Pamela Cuatto. In Piazza Sacro Cuore, from 9 am to 7:30 pm, wineries and producers offered token-based tastings, accompanied by food stalls, workshops for children, and DJ sets.
There was also space for Pompierilandia in Piazza San Lorenzo, the "Mystery of the Flowered Park" treasure hunt for children, the "An girula per Giaven" guided tour, and the opening of the city's historic mills.
Giaveno is located in Val Sangone, about 35 km from Turin. By car: take the Turin ring road, exit at Rivoli/Avigliana, then follow the SP589 towards Giaveno. By train and bus: take the train to Avigliana station on the Turin-Modane line, then use the GTT bus connections to Giaveno.
