The winter marathon between San Felice Circeo and Sabaudia, running along the coast of the Circeo National Park
The Maga Circe Marathon takes its name from the sorceress of the Odyssey who, according to legend, inhabited the Circeo promontory. It is here, between the towns of San Felice Circeo and Sabaudia in the province of Latina, that one of the most evocative marathons in the Lazio region is held every year in early February: an almost entirely flat route that runs along the Tyrrhenian Sea, crosses the Circeo National Park, and offers stunning views of the promontory, the dunes, and Lake Paola.
The event offers four formats suitable for all levels:
Founded in 2020 by the ASD In Corsa Libera, with the patronage of the Municipalities of Sabaudia and San Felice Circeo and under the aegis of FIDAL, the event has grown edition after edition to become one of the most attended marathons in Italy. In 2025, the race hosted the Italian Absolute and Master Marathon Championships, while the 2026 edition exceeded 3,400 total participants with athletes from 25 nations, confirming the event's international appeal.
The marathon is the heart of a weekend dedicated to sport and the promotion of the Pontine territory. In the days leading up to the race, the village expo comes alive with bib collection, technical meetings on marathon preparation and recovery, round tables dedicated to the mythology of the places of Maga Circe, and wellness and entertainment activities. On Sunday morning, the meeting point is at dawn: the competitive races start at 9:30 AM from San Felice Circeo, while the 10 km and family walk start from Sabaudia; all races finish in the center of Sabaudia, where the awards ceremonies take place.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Maga Circe Marathon is a project to promote the Pontine coast during the winter season: hotels, restaurants, and businesses in both towns welcome runners and their companions, and the race has become a showcase for the Circeo National Park and the Lazio Region. The mild February climate and the fast course also make it a favorite race for those seeking a personal best: in 2026, the course record dropped to 2h11'47".
The sixth edition of the Maga Circe Marathon was one for the record books. On Sunday, February 1, 2026, approximately 2,500 athletes took the start in the three competitive events, joined by 500 participants in the family walk and side activities, for a total of over 3,400 attendees representing 25 nationalities.
In the marathon, Kenyan Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo won in 2h11'47", setting a new course record, ahead of his compatriots Ishmael Chelanga Kalale (2h12'19") and Sampson Keiyo (2h14'04"): the entire men's podium finished under the previous race record. The first Italian was Alessandro Dottori. In the 29 km, Andrea Sgaravatto repeated his win in 1h39'57", while the 10.6 km was won by Gabriele Carraroli in 34'29".
The weekend opened on Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31, with the village expo in Sabaudia: bib collection, round tables on the mythology of the Maga Circe area and marathoner preparation, wellness activities, and entertainment. Enel was also a partner of the 2026 edition, with the patronage of the Municipalities of Sabaudia and San Felice Circeo.
Sabaudia and San Felice Circeo can be reached by car via the SS148 Pontina (about 90 km from Rome). By train, the nearest stations are Priverno-Fossanova and Latina, connected to the two towns by COTRAL buses. On race days, shuttles are provided between Sabaudia and the start in San Felice Circeo.
Registration is done online on the ENDU platform; the marathon fee varies approximately from โฌ30 to โฌ45 depending on the period, while the 2.5 km family walk is free. Bib collection is at the village expo during the two days preceding the race.
Book your accommodation in advance: on the first weekend of February, hotels in Sabaudia and San Felice Circeo are usually fully booked.
